As a developing country , Ghana has been facing unending water quality and quantity problems in both

municipal water systems for drinking water and availability of water for industrial and agricultural
purposes. According to the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and innovation, the country is
confronted with serious and complex environmental challenges which include waste management, air
and water pollution. This is as a result of proliferation and mismanagement of chemical pollutions of all
forms, illegal mining among others. This hinders socio economic development and leads to our inability
in meeting agricultural and drinking water demands. Also, high contaminant load and consequently high
treatment cost compromise the quality of water available to the public. This happens because in our
quest for attaining socio-economic stability as a country we tend to neglect environmental sustainability
a clear scenario is the current happenings of illegal mining ( Galamsey) in our rivers and water shed
destroying water quality. Also damming of streams by fish famers and agriculturist interrupting its flow
and availability to end users.

How will the course enable you to solve this problem?

with the requisite experience in analyzing the environmental challenges faced by the country especially
area of water quality and availability issues and ways of coming up with innovative methods of solving
these issues. One of Ghana’s mail challenges in terms of combating water related issues is the
consequently high treatment cost of water. There is therefore the need for well-trained experts in water
quality to help alleviate the qualitative and quantitative shortages of competent practioners to fill this
gap. I believe what is required are for practioners to have exceptional critical thinking and unique solving
skills to understand the complexity of these problem and solving them in a sustainable manner. IHE Delft
being a world class institution renowned worldwide for its high quality education underpinned by state-
of-the-art facilities in water research and high performance of its graduate in the industry, a degree
from IHE, will undoubtedly prepare me for a richly rewarding educational experience and a fulfilling
career in water research that will enable me come up with innovative, natural and sustainable means of
water treatment such as use of wetlands to improve upon existing detrimental water conditions. Also, I
will be exposed to more practical tutelage that will build my capacity and knowledge to undertake more
research activities and come up with sustainable solutions
