2. Weights or Pebbles
4. Smooth Plank
5. Wooden Blocks
Method or Procedure-
The stones were placed in the toy truck and measured with the spring balance
An inclined plane was then made using the smooth plank mounted on the wood blocks
A table was then designed to record the results on each trial
The spring balance was then used to measure the force required to pull the load up the inclined
plane
The force required to pull the truck up the inclined plane was compared to the force of the
standard reading (90 degrees)
The steepness of the inclined plane was varied by shifting the angle of the inclined plane
Step four was then repeated three consecutive times and were recorded on the table
Calculations were then made to find the work output and input using the following:
(J) Work input= effort (N) x distance along the inclined plane (M)
Result or observation:-
Distance Force
Standard 0.4n
3cm 0.2n
31cm 0.25n
15cm 0.3n
22.5cm 0.35n
Discussion-
A simple machine is a device or mechanical equipment that transforms energy into output work
after receiving input work. An inclined plane is a simple machine consisting of a sloping surface,
used for raising heavy bodies In the experiment the wooden plank did not move at all as the toy
truck was moving up with a lot of weight attached to it. This shows that no matter the amount
of effort the load applied the inclined plane would not shift. Therefore a simple machine such as
the incline plane would always work.
Precautions-
The wooden plank was cautiously set up to brace the draw properly preventing any errors in the
experiment.
Limitations-
There is a constant referred to as The Spring Balance Constant, in order for you to get the force.
Reflection-
A simple machine such as the inclined plane would always work if set up properly as done in the
experiment.
