Museum Tourist (Rhyen): Why hello everyone! If you don't mind I'll be taking over the tour for now!

Tourist (AK): oh of course not! Can you please enlighten us on the history of this beautiful land?

Museum Tourist (Rhyen): Why of course! I'll notify you of the simple details of the Legend of "Mina
de Oro".
Tourist (AK): You mean Mindoro?

Museum Tourist (Rhyen): You see my dear. Mindoro was once believed of having large deposits of
gold by Spaniards, thus giving it the former name "Mina de Oro".

The history of Mindoro dates back to Spanish times. Records have it that Chinese traders were
known to be trading with Mindoro merchants. Trade relations with China where Mindoro was
known as "Mai" started when certain traders from "Mai" brought valuable merchandise to Canton in
892 A.D., the year when the first cargo ship from Mindoro was recorded to have sailed to China…

Mindoro was first discovered by Miguel Lopez de Legaspi, the first Spanish Governor General of the
Philippines. When Legaspi conquered Cebu in 1565, he heard of a flourishing, bountiful, settlement
in Luzon. The search for abundant food lacking in most Visayas Islands prompted the exploration
leading to the discovery of this Island.

Captain Martin de Goiti, accompanied by Juan de Salcedo, sailed for Luzon. On May 8, 1570, they
anchored somewhere in Mindoro Coast, North of Panay. Salcedo and de Goiti had the chance to
explore the western part of the island, particularly Ilin, Mamburao, and, Lubang. From Ilin, Salcedo
sailed North of Mamburao, where he found 2 cargo containing precious cargo of gold thread, cotton
cloth, silk, gilded porcelain bowls and water jugs to be exchanged for gold with natives of Mindoro.

Tourist (AK): wow! I thought they said we wouldn't get bor...

Tourist (Jared): shhh. AK.. it was an interesting story.

Tourist (AK): ye right..

Tourist Guide (Trina): Hi again you two! Had fun?

Tourist (Jared): yep, it was very educational.

Tourist (AK): .. you can say that again…tourist Guide (Seana): haha. Now then. We can go to our
province's festival, performed live on the streets, exclusive for today! November 15!
