Solicitor General (SG) Tushar Mehta will also not be attending the event since he
has to appear for the Central government before a seven-judge bench of the Supreme
Court on January 23, Tuesday.

A seven-judge bench presided over by Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud and

comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna, Surya Kant, J B Pardiwala, Dipankar Datta, Manoj
Misra and Satish Chandra Sharma, is slated to hear the matter related to minority
status of Aligarh Muslim University on Tuesday.

Though SG Mehta is among the very few VVIP guests invited for the Rma Mandir event,
the top law officer told Bar & Bench that he would not be able to make it back to
the court on time on Tuesday for the hearing if he attends the event in Ayodhya
"It is certainly a mark of disrespect if I do not appear personally before a seven-
judge bench composition in court. Plus, there are no flights for tomorrow night
back to Delhi. Thus, there is no way I can make it to court therefore 3 pm on
January 23," said SG Mehta.

Attorney General for India R Venkataramani will also not take part in the event
owing to pending official work.
