Minutes Meeting 3:
Tuesday the 10th of September 2019

Discussion Leader: Lotta Zahn

Secretary: Merel Aben

Pre-Discussion
Task 5: Management of Organisations – Problem Task

Step 1
Difficult words:
- Tangible resources= physical items or resources which have a set value. Examples are
inventory, machinery, land and buildings.
- Intangible resources= resources which lack physical substance. They are usually very hard
to evaluate. Examples are patents, copyright, franchises, goodwill, trademarks, and trade
names.

Step 2
Problem Statement
What is the perfect way of managing?

Step 3
Brainstorm:
 Different types of departments
- Finance
- Human Resources
- Customer Relations
- Marketing
- Operations
 Dependant on the type of business/organization
 Cultural restrictions
 Ethical restrictions
 Advantages of using experiences
- Move applicable to real life
- Easier to think ‘out of the box’
 Management is about improvisation and adaption; there are always new problems to
tackle
 Advantages of using models:
- Structural basis for business/organization
- Dependant on specific case, models can prove more helpful in solving problem
- Adapt model to situation

NB It is important to distinguish between department.

Step 4
We have grouped some already together.
We have chosen to focus more on the models, and because of that, we have made LG5 –
LG9.

Step 5
Learning goals
Overall:
LG1 What is management? What is the role of management?
LG2 What different kinds of managers are there?
LG3 What are stakeholders?
LG4 What are tangible and intangible resources? How do you transfer them into valuable
goods and services?

Learning goals created by us and more focused on the models:

LG5 Which responsibilities does a manager have?
LG6 Should managers make use of models or their own experience? (Why?)
LG7 What are the pros and cons of using models?
LG8 What types of different models are there?
LG9 Do the different departments play a role for models or experience?

Work to do for Meeting 4:
