The theme for 2023 revolves around 'ESG in Corporate Governance for Corporate
Sustainable Growth,' with the objective of examining how ESG serves as a
framework for business governance to achieve sustainability. Businesses
continually undergo dynamic changes amidst various challenges and opportunities.
ESG functions as an accelerator towards achieving a sustainable future. Through
this forum, ICSA aims to build consensus and a strategic approach to business
governance that aligns with sustainable development.
 BACKGROUND
Sustainable development has become an international trend, and many countries have increasingly
emphasized environmental, social, and governance (ESG) disclosure of enterprises in recent years. ESG as an
investment concept and corporate assessment standard, has rapidly become a focal point of sustainable
development.

ESG is considered to be able to drive growth, meet
regulatory or industry requirements, meet consumer
expectations, improve company reputation, meet investor
expectations, attract, motivate and entertain employees.

The corporate governance needs to prepare, adopt, execute, monitor, and enforce decisions in ESG matters.
Therefore, the interaction between corporate governance and ESG is structural, reciprocal, and multifaceted.
Two main levels are to be taken into account: the investors’ level and the investee companies’ level. One of the
cornerstones of this analysis is the concept of the ESG cascade effect described as the potential aptitude for
companies to engage in ESG-based decisions and to systemically influence others to do so, including
investors, investee companies, and their respective supply chain and community.
