The study of rotating cantilever beam has wide range of application in practical engineering

such as turbine blades, aircraft wings etc. This paper aims to study the vibration characteristics of
a bucket in the Pelton turbine under the action of jet force considering it as a rotating cantilever
beam. The Potential and Kinetic energy are determined to obtained mathematical model. The
governing equations with non-Cartesian deformation variables i.e., the stretch, chord wise and
flap wise deformations is determined from Hamilton’s principle. Coriolis Effects are indulged
automatically, rather than the aid of ad hoc provisions. The excitation force imparted by water jet
is modelled in the form of Fourier series. Galerkin’s procedure is used to discretize the equations
to obtain dynamic response of system. Forced vibration analysis is carried out to determine the
steady state amplitudes of bending vibration. Forced response result solved analytically is
compared with the numerical simulation result through harmonic response analysis.
