Never Too Small
Aaron was a lucky child. His parents loved him very much. He was obedient, never selfish, and got high grades during the last school year. Because of this, his parents got him new toys, so he wouldn’t get bored during summer vacation. One evening, while he was playing with his little cars, he noticed that his dad was very sad. His dad just got home from work, which is managing their restaurant. Of course he was too young to understand the can he do? problem, but it seemed like the restaurant was not earning too well. His dad said that he would not like to got to work tomorrow. This seemed strange to Aaron because he knew his Dad loved working in the restaurant. His dad must really…really be depressed. But what can he do? He is only 7 years old. It is not like he can give his dad some money or perhaps work in the restaurant in his dad’s place. He didn’t know a thing about restaurant business. But, he did know how play. So he approached his dad and asked, “ Dad, would you like to play with me. You can use the newer toys.” The dad’s frown tuned into a subtle smile and said, “ Why not. I can’t sit here all night and be sad.” Next thing you know Aaron and his dada were crawling on the floor each with his own race car. “ Dad! Catch up with me. My red car is really fast!” Aaron said. “Wait up! My yellow car is still getting gas from this chair.” His dad would reply. Moments later the dad would be running to the kitchen. No longer wearing his coat and neck tie but instead a plastic helmet while holding an alien spacegun. After him Aaron would be running, stopping briefly to ask his mom where his dad went because it was his job to capture the notorious alien enemy. His mom would snicker and point to the kitchen. The house was filled with laughter as if no problem ever existed. The next morning Aaron would observe his dad leaving the house all positive and with a smile in his face. His dad was still probably recalling how he unsuccessfully tried to fit himself in the cabinet while playing hide and seek the previous night. As Aaron said goodbye to his dad, his mom gave him a kiss on the forehead and said, “ You did a good job.”
