The challenge that traditional weight loss
programs all face is that they’re not addressing
the real problem – emotional overeating.

While various weight loss methods may all work

for a certain amount of time – whether you’re
avoiding certain food groups, counting points,
measuring your portions, etc. – at some point
the unaddressed emotional conflicts and fears
will resurface.

When that happens, you won’t be able

to resist the old patterns of using food
to numb your feelings.
Below are typical weight loss challenges that EFT
Tapping will relieve or greatly reduce.

Once these challenges are addressed from How Tapping

an emotional point of view, you won’t have to
overeat out of stress, habit, or frustration. Works
During an EFT Tapping
session, we use our fingertips
to tap on acupuncture
points – or “stress relief”
points – while tuning into
the stressful target we have
chosen to work on at this
time.

While our brain is tuned

into the problem, the EFT
Tapping works to calm down
the fight or flight response
in the brain when faced
with distressing emotions,
thoughts, past memories, or
situations.

When we focus on a
challenge, the stress
response is “opened” in the
brain, and then the Tapping
calms it down.

14 Common Challenges to Losing
Weight That EFT Tapping Can Help
Eliminate

1 Feeling Deprived
A primary problem with traditional diets is
that you end up feeling deprived.

For example, if you’ve always had a diet high

in carbohydrates, avoiding them is going to
eventually trigger a feeling of resentment
and deprivation. If you have severely cut
down on your caloric intake, then you’ll no
doubt end up feeling hungry and deprived.

Deprivation can trigger childhood issues

as well, so deeper emotional work needs
to be done.

2 Fear of Change

Another challenge about weight loss

is that millions of people want to be
different but they don’t want to have
to change anything about their lives.

If you’re afraid of change, then losing

weight and feeling different about
yourself, your body, and how you
interact with people could trigger
binge eating.

3 Fear of “Their”
Reactions
Most people are unconsciously afraid of
other people’s reactions to their success.
They worry that their success will “rock the
boat” and cause tension.

Remember, the point of emotional

overeating is to calm the tension in your
body and mind.

And if family members tease you or taunt

you in any way for “being too good” for
them, or being too happy with the new
you, that will trigger enough fear to start
using food again so that you “belong.”
5
6 Relationship
Stress
Whether with your partner, family, coworkers,
or friends, relationship stress is a huge
trigger for emotional overeating.

Arguments, disagreements, drifting away,

and frustrations or disappointments can
all lead us to reaching for the wrong
foods too often.

9 Secondary
Gains
A secondary gain can be hard to see
– but being overweight can definitely
“serve you” in some way, even as
you’re saying you hate the problem of
being overweight.

When you ask the right questions and

understand in a positive way what
the problem is doing for you, you can
start tapping to relieve the underlying
conflict.

10 Safety Issues
If you feel emotionally, physically, or
spiritually “safe” with more weight
covering your body, you will need
to address this directly with the EFT
Tapping.

Ask yourself what makes you feel

safer with the extra weight?

What do you think it protects you

from?

If safety is a challenge for you, it will

always win over restrictions, dieting, or
exercise. Safety is too important for our
primitive brain, and we will never let go
of it – whether the reasons are rational
or irrational.

11 Boredom
Do you ever get bored when you’re trying to
follow a new food plan or diet?

Boredom makes people feel uneasy,

restless, and a typical response is to
sabotage your success. EFT Tapping can
help reduce the boredom and help you
focus on new angles of your journey to
keep it fresh.

2
12 Impatience

Feeling impatient about your progress

is definitely a trigger for emotional
overeating. When you don’t see
enough progress on the scale or
in your clothes, you might consider
“throwing in the towel” and eating
something that you know wouldn’t be
good for you.

Feeling impatient might

make you feel other feelings –
resentment, this isn’t fair, why
me – and also make you want to
sabotage yourself.

EFT Tapping can help you stay on your

plan, feel steady and calm, and keep
putting one foot in front of the other
on this journey.

14 Success

You may not understand how your success

can be a trigger for emotional overeating.
When you start to do well, it can remind
you of the fears you’ve held onto about
being visible, feeling good, not believing you
deserve success.

If you’re more comfortable struggling

as you have in the past, and these
feelings and beliefs get triggered,
you might naturally reach for
food to sabotage yourself.

2
13 Failure
If you fall off the wagon on your weight
loss plan, or skip a few days of exercise,
sometimes the typical response is to
feel like a failure.

And when you feel like a failure, the

momentum keeps going in that
direction.

EFT Tapping is enormously helpful in

turning this cycle around so you can
admit and own the problem, and then
get right back onto your plan.
