SANTERIA – way of the saints

Life is all about prayer. Every religion prays. Actually, even the non-religious prays when
cornered in life.
The devil surely doesn’t mind anyone praying, so long as you pray the wrong way to the wrong
god.
Welcome to SANTERIA – “WAY OF THE SAINTS”. It’s all about praying the wrong way, to the
wrong gods(spirits).
WHAT IS SANTERIA? It is an Afro-Caribbean religion that combines,

 Animism – belief in innumerable spirit beings engaging in human affairs.

 Pantheism – a doctrine that identifies God with the universe.
 Ancestor worship – worshipping the deceased for intervention on behalf of the living.
 Roman Catholicism – veneration of saints(idols)
 It is a syncretistic religion that combines the Orishas—the gods of the Yoruba southwest
Nigerian—with the Catholic saints.
SANTERIANS claim to be following God while practicing dark rituals of divination, black magic
SANTERIA, originated in Cuba, is practiced by millions of Cubans, and has now become like
fireworks, shooting its sprouts all over the world as it evolves into something different to suit
each culture. This happened due to the Cuban revolution that occurred in 1953 sending
Cubans into different parts of the world.
SANTERIA can also be described as the Hispanic version of voodoo because of its intense black
magic involvement.
SANTARIANS believe everyone has a destiny from God which is fulfilled by the aid of powerful
spirits know as ORISHAS.
ORISHAS are African gods believed to be sent by “Olodumare” their creator god (represented
by the sun and moon).
SANTERIA is polytheistic and is not based on doctrines and creeds. But on demonic rituals pass
down by way of oral traditions.
GODS OF SANTERIA
OLODUMARE – creator of the Orishas(gods). He alone is self-sustaining, not needing Ashe to
survive.
 ASHE is considered to be the life force, life energy, cosmos energy in living things. And
can emanate from one person to another through certain rituals.
OCHUN – some say is Jesus to the Santerians. Ritual sacrifice is the rooster, billy goat.
YEMAYA – some say is virgin Mary to the Santerians. Ritual sacrifice is she-goat, hens and
ducks.
OSUN – is associated with St. John the Baptist. Osun warns santeros when danger arises and is
seen as the embodiment of joy.
ORUNLA – the principal magician of the Yorubas panteon and is associated with Saint
Francis of Assisi.
CHANGO – is the patron of fire, drums, dance, lightning, and thunder. He is likened to Saint
Barbara of the Catholics.
BABALU – associated with disease and its curing.
ORULA – divination.
OYA – queen of the dead, guardian of the cemetery. And a is equated with Saint Theresa.
OBATALA – responsible for molding humanity and is associated with “Our lady of mercy”.
EL NINO DIVINO – divine baby Jesus is called upon for good luck, healing and fertility.
PALOMAYOMBE – the dark evil twins of Santeria that involve very dark black magic and much
blood sacrifices.

RITUALS OF SANTERIA
 Dancing to rhythmic drums (frenzies) to summon the gods. At which point the
participant becomes possessed by the spirit/s as they give up their consciousness to the
deity.
 Use of charms (already energized by demons)
 Herbs (that are believed to carry deities)
 Symbols (that attract spirits)
 Potions (a poisonous liquid with magical healing properties)
 Offerings which are determined by divination – flowers, money, fruits, liquors, candles.
 Animal sacrifices – especially chickens for forgiveness of sins, favor and good fortune.
  Human sacrifices (Not regularly).
 Ancestor veneration – calling on the dead in ceremonies is an always, for guidance.
Santerians can learn to see and communicate with the dead,
 Blessings and prophetic words spoken to the creyentes by the santero or santera after
being possessed by the saints(demon gods).
 Initiation ceremony,
o A years wage must be paid to the santero/santera.
o Initiation ceremony takes place for 7 days.
o Spiritual mass is done to gain the blessings of the ancestral gods.

Health problems are the most common reason why people would visit a Santero/Santera.
 Santeros/Santeros who perform mystical healings are called CURANDEROS.
 Curanderos are sought after especially to heal gastrointestinal problems, respiratory
problems, female reproduction problems, induce abortion, sexual infections…
 Curanderos uses divination to determine the cause of the person’s problems before
prescribing Holistic treatment.
 Herbalism is a major part of Santeria healing practices.
 Each plant has its own ACHE(life energy/force energy/cosmos energy)
 Curanderos also frequently prescribe a cleansing bath with additives in the water.
 Or a necklace is given to the sick person.
 Sacrifice an animal to a specific Orisha to request healing.
 Encourage an Orisha to possess the sick and heal them.
 Charms and amulets are given to the person to keep them healed and protected.
FUNERAL RITUALS
 A funeral mass is held in the catholic church 9 days after the individual ahs died to
ensure that the soul of the depart makes its way to the realm of the spirits.
 The following year the same ceremony repeated after which a plate is broken to
symbolize the deceased’s final departure to life.
 Spiritual mases are also performed to connect with spirits.
BOTANICAS (SANTERIANS STORE)– offer a very wide variety of spiritual, magical and religious,
and wiccan merchandise and services including crystals, candles, idols, potions, powders, oils,
incenses, herbs and roots, spiritual cologne and soaps…
Normally when Santeros/Santeras/Bujas/Witches want out of black magic and Santeria
because of its growing dangers, the demons become mad and take away their jobs, portions of
their health, demons show up to frighten them in dreams or real time, if possible, to try and
harm them.
Any involvement in Santeria brings demonic influences and afflictions into the life of the
person and their descendants.
WHY IS THE CULT OF SANTERIA WRONG AND UNBIBLICAL?
1. It ignores Jesus Christ, His teachings and redemptive work. No one can know God except
through Jesus Christ.

2. It permits the worship of spirits. Scripture teaches only the Lord should be worshiped.

3. It teaches creyetes to look to spirits for ultimate power. When the power of God is more
powerful than all the power of spirits combined.
