IWORI OGUNDA

1. Ifa says it promises victory for you. You shall be a leader


whom other people will be following. As a leader, people
will attempt to gang up against you, but on every attempt
you shall triumph. Ifa also foresees a very high honour for
you. All you need to do is to offer ebo for honour with one
ram, one cutlass, one knife, 2 roosters and money.
One of the roosters will be used to feed Esu, the other will
be used to feed Ogun. One Aguntan (ewe) will be used to
propitiate your Ori.
On this, Ifa says:

Ejo ti araye ba da ti
Ero orun nii daa
Dia fun Asorin
Tii yoo je Oloja Lawujo igi oko
A m’Asunrin j’oloja
Gbogbo Igi Oko
E teyin wa, e wa sin
Gbogbo Igi Oko

Translation
A case that is not well decided by Human Being
The heavenly beings will give the right judgement
This was the declaration of Ifa to Asorin tree
When he was going to be king of all the forest
trees
Asorin has been made a king
All trees of the forest come and pay your respect
All trees of the forest
Come and pay your homage

2. Ifa says you need to propitiate the spirits of your dead


ones. You should also offer ebo for wealth with 2 rams,
money a basket of eko (corn meal). One of these rams
will be used to feed the spirit of your dead father, grand
father or great grand father the other one will be used for
the ebo proper. The leaves of the eko will be deposited at
the spot where the spirit of the father is propitiated.
Your wealth is a divine blessing and it is the spirit of your
father that will facilitate this. On this Ifa says:

3. Ifa says there is a pregnant woman close to you. She


needs to offer ebo because of the Baby in her tummy.
The baby inside her tummy is a boy. This ebo must be
offered for safe delivery of the baby. The baby boy should
however be named Fasola. That is his name right from
heaven. Items for the Ebo are: 3 roosters, 3 hens, 8 rats
and 8 fish and money.
Ifa should be fed, and the boy should undergo Itenifa.
(Your own name is also Fasola). On this, Ifa says:

is the Awo of the main entrance)
This was Ifa’s declaration to Fasola

It is Fasola, the offspring of Iwori-Ogunda
Who owns the wife (wives) in this house?
It is Fasola, the child of Iwori-Ogunda
Who owns the children in this house?
It is Fasola
The offspring of Iwori Aweda
Who owns all the Ire in this house?
It is Fasola

4. Ifa warns that you should not adopt illegal means to look
for money. You should also not be greedy. Ifa says, you
should not be too much in a hurry to make it in life, as you
will be able to achieve all your desires steadily. On this,
you have to offer ebo with all edible items, 2 brooms,
money. After the ebo, one of the brooms will be given to
you. You will be sweeping with it. On this, Ifa says:

It is Iroko of the wilderness that hides it head
And exposes its body

When coming from heaven to the world
He who want wealth
Ifa warns you not to be in haste

5. Ifa foresees an all encompassing Ire for you. The later


part of your life will be very interesting, rewarding and
successful. It is your Egbe that needs to be fed before
you realise you potential. They are the ones changing
your fortunes to misfortunes. You have to offer ebo to
ward this off. The material for the ebo include: all edible
items, these will be in a bowl, sponge, soap, camwood
and money. The sponge soap and camwood will also be
put in the bowl and the bowl will be placed by Iroko tree.
On this, Ifa says:

Ori buruku ni o gbose


Iwori wonda ni o gbo kanyinkan
Dia fun e o Mogba-ti-mo-yan-an
Ti ntorun bo waye
O dele aye tan, oju Ire gbogbo lo npon
Won ni ko sa kale ebo ni sise

Translation
Bad destiny cannot be cleansed with soap
Ill-luck does not disappear with scrubbing the
head with sponge
This was Ifa’s declaration for O-Mogba-ti-mo-yan-
an (No one knows when I choose my destiny)
When coming to the world
When he got to the world, he was in need/want of
all Ire
He was advised to offer ebo
He complied
I have gotten wealth
I have gotten spouse
I have gotten children
I have gotten all Ire
Who knows?
Who knows the time my destiny would manifest?

6. Ifa says you will have many children. Your father has
many children and none of you is very successful. All of
you came to this world with empty heads. If your father is
still alive, his head has gone back to heaven. You have to
offer one ram, money as ebo.
Also, one ram will be used to propitiate the spirit of your
dead father. If he is alive, the ram will be used to
propitiate his Ori. On this, Ifa says:

Apari ni o ri abe ko too pari


Okunrun ni o ri opa ko too dide
Dia fun ese kan soso Iwori
To bimo to po
Ti okankan o lori
Ese kan soso Iwori
To bimo to po

Baba a mi gb’agbo

Translation
A bald-headed man does not need any blade to
get a clean shave
The sick never uses walking stick to get well
This was Ifa’s declaration to Iwori
Who gave birth to many children
And none of them is successful
Behold! It is Iwori
Who has many children
And none is successful
My father, please take this ram
And let me be successful
Let me accomplish my heart’s desires
Agbo reee iyee! Here is my ram

7. Ifa says you are apprehensive over an issue. Ifa says you
should not entertain doubt as Ifa says that you are going
to enjoy rest of mind on the issue. You are going to enjoy
rest on the issue. You have to offer ebo with 4 pigeons,
money in four places, 2 cow tails, ram, ram’s skin and
money. An Irukere will be made with one of the cow tails
and handed over to you. You will take this with you to the
river bank where you will propitiate your father’s spirit (if
dead), with a ram, ram’s skin. That is, the spirit of your
father must be propitiated by the river side. On this, Ifa
says:

Iwori wonda omo ologbun-jogbun

Translation
Iwori Wonda (Iwori-Ogunda) the offspring of He
who has a bigger drainer
If it were to be in our home
I would have gone for my own title
I will hold two cowtails majestically
I will beckon on those before me
To come and access my performance
I will equally call on people coming behind
To come and access my performance
These were the declarations of Ifa to Olota Odo
(the offspringof those who dressed majestically to
perform rituals)
Song: Those ahead of me please come and access me
And those coming behind, come and access my
performance

8. Ifa says there is a fair complexioned woman that is close


to you. Ifa says that you should offer ebo to guide/prevent
the woman from having an Abiku. On this, Ifa says you
should offer ebo with Obuko/Akuko, rooster/cock and
money. There is the need to make a special soap which
the woman will use to bath once in a stream. The sponge
will be thrown into the stream after the bath. On this, Ifa
says:

Ori buruku ni o gbo’se


Iwonda ni o gbo kanyinkanyin
Oro eda i ba gbon kanyinkanyin
Mba jawe Ifa kan
Ma fi wee
Dia fun Amoloja
Tii seya Abiku
Won ni ko sa kale ebo ni sise

Translation
Bad destiny can not be amended by mere
washing/bathing with soap
ill-luck cannot be scrubbed clean with sponge
If human destiny are amendable by mere
washing/bathing with soap and sponge
I would have made a very potent Ifa preparations
to bath with
These were Ifa’s declarations to Amoloja (the fair
complexion woman)
The mother of Abiku – a child destined to die
young
She was advised to offer ebo

9. Ifa says, people have written you off. They were of the
opinion that you can never prosper in life. Ifa says, you
should exercise patience and that you shall prosper to the
amazement of everybody, if you can offer ebo with 2
roosters, 2 pigeon, 2 guinea fowls and money. On
this, Ifa says:
Ori buruku ni o gbose
Iwori Aweda, o gbo kanyinkanyin
Dia fun eni ti a Ndadii
Ti yoo bo waa doloro lola
Ebo ni won ni ko wa se
O gbebo, o rubo

Translation
Bad destiny is not amendable with washing with
soap
It luck cannot respond to bathing with sponge
This was Ifa’s declaration to he who had been
written off as a never-do-well
Who shall become wealthy in the near future
He was advised to offer ebo
He complied

10. Ifa says that Egbe icon must be made for you. There must
also be a big bowlike calabash to be filled with aadun,
Ireke-Sugarcane, Ogede-Banana, Epa –Groundnut, small
calabash. There is also the need to offer ebo with 2
roosters, palmoil and money. On this, Ifa says:

Ka tesuru bopo
Ka togede boyo
Dia fun Abomo Jingin
Ti nsunkun pe ire toun pe lorun o
Ebo ni won ni ko wa se
Nje Jingin-Jingin gbedemuke o
A yoo foro yii rerin-in gbedemuke

Translation
Let’s dip esuru (Pennisetum purpureums) into
palm oil
And dip Ogede (banana) into salt
Cast Ifa for Abomojigin (One who has many lively
children)
When she was lamenting that her Ire over stayed
in heaven
She was asked to offer ebo
Oh Jingin-Jingin (relax and rejoice)
Gbedemuke
We shall all rejoice over this issue in the nearest
future

11. Ifa says you should offer ebo against being unnecessarily
implicated on issue(s) you knew nothing about. There is
an unfortunate person that is close to you, you have to
offer ebo with 3 roosters 1 he-goat and money. One of
the roosters will be used to feed Esu. On this, Ifa says:

Ol’ori buruku mumi o pa a l’ori


Okuugbe j’ogede, o ha a l’orun
Won ni ki okuugbe f’ehinti ka yo ogede
Ikoti se mo l’ofun
Dia fun Ol’ori buruku
Ti nt’orun bo wa’le aye
Ebo ni won ni ko se
Olori buruku ni ohun o l’ebo o ru
Nje ki olori buruku ma koo ba mi
Mo ti yaa sun si’waju

Translation
An unfortunate person drinks water and it goes
through his wind pipe
A controversial person eats banana and it got
stuck to his throat
He was asked to lean his back so that the
banana can be removed
The needle breaks right inside his throat
These were Ifa’s declarations for Olori buruku
(He who is destined to be unfortunate)
When he was coming to the world
He was asked to offer ebo
He said he is not interested in offering any ebo
Oh! the unfortunate, do not inflict me with your
misfortunes
I have moved far away from you

12. Ifa says that two individuals need to offer ebo so that
these people can be blessed with children. These people
should give the issue of having children their priority than
wealth. They should also propitiate their Ori. Materials to
be used for ebo include 4 rats, 4 fish, 2 hens and
money. On this, Ifa says:

Iwori wonda-wonda
Dia fun Ori owo-dun
A bu fun Ori Omo-dun
Won ni ki won sakaale, ebo ni sise
Ero Ipo, Ero Ofa
Eyin e mo pe Ori omo dun ju t’olowo lo

Cast Ifa for the Ori who believes in wealth
And also cast for the Ori who believes in children
Both of them were asked to offer ebo

Behold! Children rank higher than wealth

13. Ifa says the owner of this Odu should offer ebo of
longevity. It is when he/she is alive that he/she can talk of
any other goodies of life. Ifa assures this person that
when there is life there is hope. All good things of life will
be given to him/her. Materials for ebo include. 1 he-goat
and money. On this, Ifa says:

Orogbo ko see mu s’eke ile


Obi abata ko see mu se okute
Dia fun Emi
Ti nlo ree je Oloja l’awujo ara
A mu Emi j’Oloja Ifa
Gbogbo ara, e ya wa e wa sin
Gbogbo ara

Translation
Orogbo (Garcinia kola) cannot be used as rafter
Obi abata (ficus glumosa) cannot be used as a
beam

When going to be the king of the Body
Behold! Life has been crowned as the head of
the body
All parts of the body come and pay homage
All parts of the body

14. Ifa assures you of adequate protection. Ifa also says that
you will command respect from your fellow human being.
You need to offer ebo with 3 roosters or 1 he-goat,
Abere Oporo, Needles –3 packets and money. On this,
Ifa says:

as strong as pebble
This was Ifa’s declaration for Tete (Amaranthus
Spp)
When coming from heaven to the world
Same was also declared for Dagunro (Alternanthera
repens)
When coming to the world
They were asked to offer ebo
It was only Dagunro that complied
Behold Dagunro is exempted from human
consumption
The way that tete is consumed
Dagunro cannot be eaten in like manner
15. Ifa says you need to wash your head at the stream for
thing to change for better for you. A special soap and
sponge will be prepared for you to do this “head bath”.
This will be the head of “Eda” rat, the head of Emo rat
Awede leaves and soap will be pounded together for this
bath. This will be done after you might have offered an all-
encompassing ebo with 2 roosters, 2 guinea fowl, 2
hen, 2 pigeons, 2 bottles of palmoil. On this, Ifa says:

16. Ifa advises you no to turn you back away from Isese. All
your good things of life are embedded in Isese. If you turn
away from Isese there will be a lot of problems in your life.
You have to feed Orisanla with he-goat, 16 snails, lot of
Ori, shea butter and also offer ebo with money. On this,
Ifa says:

Iwori Aweda, Eda o gb’oogun

charms
Instead Ifa advised us to use ebo to amend it
This was Ifa’s declaration to Oganjobi
Who declared he would not worship Orisa again
And choose to worship other people’s ancestors
Unknown to him that another person’s ancestor
does not give one support

OWONRIN OSA
1. Ifa says there are lots of goodies for you away from where
you were born. Whenever you go on business trip outside
your domain, you shall thrive. When this success
emerged, there would be a serious conspiracy and
discrimination against you by the indigenes of your area of
location. For resounding victory on this, Ifa says you
should offer ebo with 2 roosters, 2 hens and money.
On this, Ifa says:

Onile nii san’wo


Ki Alejo o too san’wo
Dia fun Ogo
Tii s’awo re’le Iseyin
Ogo kii s’ara Iseyin
Awo lo se de’be o

Translation
The host washes his hand
Before the Guest
This was Ifa’s advice to Ogo
When embarking on Ifa business to Iseyin
Behold! Ogo is not an indigene of Iseyin
He came on Ifa mission to the land

2. Ifa advises you to offer ebo against six evil principalities


so that you can overcome these heavenly forces. The
principalities are: Iku - Death, Arun - Affliction, Ejo -
Contention, Ofo - Loss, Obaluaye and Iyami – Witches.
The ebo materials include. 6 crabs, 6 roosters, 6
bottles of palmoil, 6 earthen plates and money.
On this, Ifa says:

Kinni kan nbe ninu ogan


O ndun mahuru-mahuru
Kini kan nbe ni nimu ogan
O ndun mahuru mahere
Bi o pani je, ko pani je
Bi o ba si ni pani je
Ko ye dun mahuru-mahere le’ni l’ori mo
Dia fun Orunmila Ifa nbe laarin ota mefa
Iku gba’kan o maa lo o, ogba’kan ngb’akan
Arun gba’kan o maa lo o, o gba’kan ngb’akan
Ejo gba’kan o maa lo o, ogba’kan ngb’akan

Obaluaye gba’kan o maa lo o, ogba’kan ngbakan

Translation
There is something inside the ant hill
That is making a fearful sound
There is something inside the anthill
That is making frightening sound
If it is death, let it kill one time
If not, the sound should stop forthwith
This was Ifa’s declaration to Orunmila
When he was in the midst of 6 arch enemies
Iku (Death) gba’kan (take a crab) and leave
Arun (illness) take a crab and leave
Ejo (Contention), take a crab and depart
Ofo, Loss, take a crab and disperse
Elder of the Night, take a crab and go

3. Ifa says bad spirits are trailing you about. You have to
offer ebo to chase off these Egbe buruku (dysfunctional
executioners) from him. You will offer 1 rooster 10
aligator pepper and money.

The dry gin, will be poured into keregbe, bottled calabash,


to feed Egbe at the cross road (Orita meta). After feeding
Egbe, the gourd will be used to encircle your head three
times and then broken with this statement: Ori buruku
pada leyin mi o. meaning (all misfortunes, all
dysfunctional executioners, depart from me henceforth).
On this, Ifa says:

Akisa ponnaku idi el’egbo


Olomo waape-waape
Dia fun Omoleyo
Ti Egbe re nto l’eyin kaakiri aye
Omoleyo, o ba l’oti, o l’obi
O fi f’alawo
Ki ajogun orun o p’eyinda
Translation
Akisa ponnaku idi el’egbo
Olomo waape-waape
Cast Ifa for Omoleyo
When her heavenly mates were monitoring her
about
Oh! Omoleyo, endeavour to give liquor and
kolanuts to Babalawo
And let these dysfunctional principalities get off
your back

4. Ifa says there is a particular barren woman. This woman


must offer ebo. This woman is being disturbed by her
family’s ancestral spirits. She has to offer ebo with 2
Agbo (Rams) and money. One of the rams will be used
to feed Oro. If this is done, Ifa says she will be blessed
with the fruit of the womb.
On this Ifa says:

Oye nii ta funfun kari aye


Olorun pajuba iwa kale
Dia fun Iye Omo
A bu fun Akanke
Akanke ma mi jo o
Oro mi lu
Omo ni se’hun baba re

Translation
Harmattan is it that spreads all over
The heavens prepare the destiny of the world
This is Ifa’s declaration for Iye Omo, Mother
The same was declared for Akanke
Akanke is dancing
Oro is also drumming
It is a child that is celebrating her Ancestors

5. Ifa says there is a particular boy who needs to offer ebo.


In addition to this, he must do Itenifa. This will be great in
life. Some evil people have perfected the digging of this
boy’s grave. For him no to fall into this pot, he has to feed
Osu. Ebo will be offered with 1 he-goat, 2o kolanuts, 20
bitterkola, Ifa rats, and fish. Osu will be propitiated with
1 roosters.
On this, Ifa says:

Kinni kan nbe ninu ogan


O ndun mahuru mahuru
Kinni kan nbe ninu ogan
O ndun maherere maherere
Dia fun Adagudu
Tii somo bibi inu Agbonniregun
Adagudu omo mi nii se
O ba te Osu siwaju

Translation
Something is inside anthill
That it is sounding fearfully
Something is inside anthill
That is making deadly sound
This was Ifa’s declaration to Adagudu
The offspring of Agbonniregun
Adagudu is my child
Let the Osu staff bend forward
And not backward
Adagudu is truly my child

6. Ifa says that lots of goodies await you. And everything will
work out perfectly for you. You have to offer ebo with 2
guinea fowls, 2 pigeons and money.
On this, Ifa says:

Ekuya nla abidi gbodo


Ewu arugbo l’ewu ire
Dia fun Orunmila
Tii sawo lo sile Aseyin Amokin
Aye oun le toro lo ndafa si
Won ni ko rubo, O rubo
Nje aye mi waa di aye Ajitoro o segi
T’ale-t’ale iwa Oba ko sai toro

Translation
The big Ekuya, cleome ciliate with a broad base
The grey hair on an Elder’s head is the most
acceptable and pleasant one (and not the one on
the head of a youth)
These were Ifa’s declarations to Orunmila
When going on Ifa’s mission to Aseyin Amokin,
the Oba of Iseyin town
Who consulted Ifa to know how progressive and
peaceful his life would be
He was advised to offer ebo
He complied
Behold! My life is very peaceful like that of Ajitoro
It is certain, that my life shall be peaceful

7. Ifa says it promises a barren woman a child she should


offer ebo and propritiate Igi-Idin for her to get a child of
her own. On this, Ifa says:

Dia fun Agan-o-ribi

Translation
Owonrin Osa grind pepper
Owonrin Osa grindes Ogi
A strong charm makes liars afraid to use it to
swear on oath
This Ifa’s declarations to the barren woman
Who was the first daughter of Aseyin Arolu
When she was lamenting her inability to bear a
child
She was advised to offer ebo
And propitiate Idi (Terminalia glaucesceus)
She complied
Here comes the princess of Aseyin
The offspring of those who propitiate Idi before
they make love at all

8. Ifa says that if your father is alive, he is not happy with


you. If he is dead, his spirit is angry with you. You can
not afford to have your father against you. Consequently,
you need to feed Oosa nla with he-goat and soup so that
he can mediate between you and the spirit of your father.
It is not only you that your father is angry with but with all
of his children.

You can evoke the spirit of your father at Oosanla shrine.


If you don’t have access to Oosanla shrine you can
propitiate the spirit of your father at his grave

4. Ifa says you should offer ebo to draw things to yourself away
from where you were born. There is no place you will live

5. Ifa advises you to offer ebo against four evil principalities so


that you can overcome these heavenly forces. The
principalities are: Iku, Death, Arun, Aflliction, Ejo Contention,
and Ofo loss. The ebo materials include: 4 Akere – Toad, 4
guinea fowls, 4 pigeon, 4 roosters, 4 hens, palm oil, 50
kolanuts, 50 bitter kolanuts, and money. The ebo will be
offered in fours (in four places). The toad will be put on each
of the ebo.
On this, Ifa says:

6. Ifa says you should offer ebo against sickness. A time may
come in your life when you will be having health challenges.
This situation needed to be addressed. You are to offer ebo
with I ram, I sheep, 6 bottles of palmoil, 16 bitter kola, 16
kolanuts and money. The need to offer the ebo can not be
over emphasised so that the sickness does not take away
your voice.
On this, Ifa says:

pigoens, 3 ducks, 3 roosters, 3 hens, 3 guinea fowls
and money.

12. Ifa promises you the ire of sweetness. It enjoins you to


venture into medicine/drugs that are used in treating
sickness/ailments. Ifa says you will make a fortune from
this. Items of ebo include: 3 piegons and money. You
have to feed Ifa. Also, endeavour to get those medicines
for treatment ready at all times.
On this, Ifa says:

13. Ifa says you will be wealthy. You should endeavour to add
kolanut sales to your business line. Ifa says you should
get a cone, this will be fortified with extra potent herbal
preparations, this will be given to you to enable you
triumph over those who exhibit hatred against you. You
will be putting this cone on your merchandise. You will
offer ebo with 3 pigeons, 3 hens, 3 guinea, 3 roosters
and money. Those who make jest of you when you fall
will be put to shame.
On this, Ifa says:

Clarity of the sky is symobolised by the
appearance of the rainbow

You shall see the outcome of this

14. Ifa says you should endeavour to be open-handed”. You


must not be stingy, you must be generous. You must be
feeding elders of the the Night at regular intervals. Also,
you must be organising feast for people on a regular
basis. All these are to guide against calamity. You will
offer ebo with 3 pigeons, 3 guinea-fowls, 3 roosters
and money.
On this, Ifa says:

15. Ifa says you will enjoy good followership. You shall be
wealthy and enjoy royal accolade. You should feed Oosa
Oko and offer ebo with 3 pigeons and money.
On this, Ifa says:

of Irawo town
Whe he was going to enjoy good followership

16. Ifa foresees the Ire of longevity. You should endeavour to


keep up your usual good behaviour. You shall live long.
For this to materialise you have to offer ebo with one he-
goat and money.
On this, Ifa says:

Borin b ape lenu, a maa di ‘to


Bi igongo b ape laatan a dawon pala
Igongo a keyin Odu, a redi keke
Dia fun aikulola
Tii nsolori iwa n’Ife
Ti nba ku
Ma rire aiku-maniwa

Translation
When the chewing stick stays longer in the
mouth, it changes to saliva
If Igongo maggot stays long in the refuse bin, it
turns to Aworonpala
Igongo is it that came after Odu and swings its
buttocks sideways
This was Ifa’s message to Aikulola
The head of good character in Ife
If I did no die
I will enjoy long life and prosperity

17. Ifa says everything highlighted as your taboos must be


strictly adhered to. If you do not observe and avoid these
taboo they may give you untold problems. Again, there is
a taboo you are presently engaged in, this particular taboo
should be known, is it in character utterance or something
you ought not eat? Ifa says you shall be wealthy and also
enjoy good followership. You need to offer ebo with 4
guinea fowls, 4 pigeons, 16 snails, 16 efun (native
chalk 12 yards of white cloth and money. You also
need to feed Oosanla and endeavour to have Oosanla
beads (sese’efun beads) on you. On this, Ifa says:
