Matching newspaper headlines with their respective articles and extracting the "5W's information
requires attention to detail and a careful reading of the entire article. This process helps ensure that the
headline accurately represents the content of the article and that you capture all the essential information for a
concise summary.
INSTRUCTIONS: PLEASE READ AND UNDERSTAND THE INSTRUCTIONS. (ASK FACILITATOR FOR

Start by reading the headline of the newspaper article. The headline usually provides a concise summary of the
main point or topic.
Next, read the entire article carefully. Pay attention to the details, facts, and context presented in the article.
Who: Determine who the article is about. This could be individuals, groups, organizations, or any relevant entities
mentioned in the article.
What: Understand the central topic or subject of the article. What is it discussing or reporting on?
Where: Determine the location or locations mentioned in the article. This could be specific places, cities, regions,
or countries.
When: Note the timeframe or date information. When did the events or incidents described in the article occur?
Why: Identify the reasons, motives, or causes behind the events or issues covered in the article.
After identifying the 5W’s information from the article, compare it with the headline. Does the headline
accurately represent the content of the article? Note any discrepancies or variations.
Paste the headlines and the articles on the yellow sheet. On a separate paper, write the summary (5W’s-
Information)
Review your summary to ensure accuracy, coherence, and conciseness. Make sure that the information is
presented in a clear and organized manner.
