4. RECEPTION

• Choose someone you trust to be responsible f or receiving and checking the material.

• Check the material as requested. If you notice any irregularities, follow the procedures
described in item - DELIVERY AND CUSTOMER SERVICE.

3
5. storage

• The product is sensitive to stains before applying the protection therefore it requires
special care in transportation and handling.
• Those responsible for the unloading and storing of the product must have their
hands clean or wear gloves to keep the pieces unstained.
• The material should be stored in a clean area, preferably covered, and the floor
must be lined with plastic (do not use cardboard).
• Cover the pieces with plastic.

CAUTION

• We recommend not storing the pieces for a long time because they tend to create
stains. This is a natural process of the concrete, and they are not considered a
product defect.
• It is very important to have someone qualified to supervise the moment of storing
to avoid irreparable damage to the product.

4
6. PLANNING the installation area

• Do the cleaning of the place by removing all kinds of residues.

• Perform inspection of the base. If necessary, make regularizations.

6.1. PAGING LINE ILLUSIE

The Illusie line has several paging possibilities as seen in the examples above.

5
6.2. LAYING LINE ILLUSIE
The pieces of the line Illusie have a triangular shape, the sides presenting slightly
different finishing and a 4 inches hole.

• For the laying use rebars of O3/4 “- 1.30 m long, concrete and PVC rings of 4”-
10cm (height).
• Fix the rebars in the structural base according to the paging received at the time of
purchase. The responsible professional, according to the height considered in the
design, should foresee this fixing.

• Set the position of the pieces in relation to the sides; fit the PVC rings, introducing
5 cm on each piece. The PVC ring between the pieces is important to prevent the
concrete to leak by the spans.

• Start the laying of the first row with the aid of line, which will ensure the leveling of
the pieces.
• The pieces should be laid on consecutive horizontal rows, using the plumb line to
ensure the vertical alignment.
• Fill with concrete every four rows, tie the next rebar with annealed wire and start
laying the next four rows.

6
filling with concrete

• Wait 24 hours and continue the laying.

• Keep the rows clean.
• Perform the locking of the rebar in girder in the last row.
• Do not exceed three meters height without top locking (girder construction).

7
6.3. LAYING – LINES SYNUS AND TRAMA
The lines of hollow elements Castelatto integrate the rooms and they may be used in
any space where light and ventilation are desired.

• For the laying of hollow elements, use the same practices of sealing of conventional
masonry.
• Use flexible mortar ACII or colored ACIII to facilitate the moment of grouting.
• Before beginning the laying process, pre-mark and level all the joints, to ensure the
correct pagination of the rows between the walls.

• Lay the product with armed joint, never with plumb joint.

Check out our YouTube channel and watch the video lessons of laying Castelatto products.

8
• The laying should start from the corners. The first row should get double gluing.
• A 10 mm notched trowel should be used. Apply mortar on the floor with the flat side
of the trowel, with an approximate angle of 30°. Then, make ridges on the surface
with the notched trowel with an angle of 60°.
• On the reverse side of the piece, repeat the procedure forming crossed ridges in
their basis points so as to get the compensation in the crushing of the ridges.

• Between the two extremes already laid, stretch a line that will serve as a guide,
ensuring the plumb and the horizontality of each row. If the thickness of the hollow
element does not coincide with the wall thickness, the piece should be aligned
by either one of the sides (internal or external) or by the wall axis. For vertical
alignment the plumb line should be used.
• The pieces should be laid on consecutive horizontal rows until filling the given space
of the project.
• Keep the rows clean (there should be no grout) in the apparent vain.
• We recommend every three rows in the TRAMA line, the inclusion of a locking pin of
10 mm diameter at each end.

9
• We recommend every ten rows of SYNUS line, a locking pin of 6.3 mm diameter at
each end. For these, use two parallel pins on the side of the piece.
• The locking pins can forward from 5 cm to 10 cm in the pieces.

• In SYNUS line, build support columns every 4.20 meters.

• The yield of mortar is 7m² for SYNUS line.

• Trama and Synus lines have the yield for grout about 50m2.
• For TRAMA line, we recommend one support column every 5 meters.
• The yield of mortar is 17m² for TRAMA line.
• The joints should be grouted with laying colored mortar.
• Perform the wedging in the last row.
• Do not exceed a height of 3 m without locking top (girder construction).

10
6.4 Paging – Line Colonna
The Colonna line has several paging possibilities as seen in the examples above.

11
6.5 laying – LINE COLONNA

• Use AC III flexible quick-drying mortar

• Before starting the laying process, pre-mark and level the pieces to the first row
according to pagination (for column format).

Remarks
• Inside of each column is mandatory to contain a metalon of 16 mm or 5/8, with a
maximum height of 5.00 meters. (See Figure A).
• It is necessary to lock the parts in the ceiling and subfloor

FIGURe A

12
LAYING
• Once the armature (metalon) is fixed according to the purpose of the Colonna line
(as described in the item REMARKS), it is extremely important to position the first
row, as well as its plumbing and leveling, before filling it.
• To ensure the stability of the parts during the laying, it is recommended the use of
“Hellerman tape”.

7. CLEANING

CLEANING IN THE BUILDING SITE

• After laying is very important to keep the pieces covered with plastic until the
construction work is completed to avoid any dirt (do not use cardboard).
• Clean with alkaline detergent.
• Do not use acids, not even those cleaning products of acid base recommended for
cleaning stones and others.
• If any area shows stains or resistant dirt, it is recommended to get in touch with
Castelatto about these procedures.
• The post-construction cleaning should be performed, at least, 72 hours after grouting.

ALKALINE DETERGENT
