Cases of Covid-19 are now surging again in the UK. Health experts have issued a warning about a new
Covid-19 variant codenamed Eris. The UK health safety agency, UKHSA, said the new cases have
spread rapidly across the UK.

As many as 1 in 7 cases of Covid-19 in the UK are now associated with the Eris variant. Quoted from The
Independent page, the Eris variant is technically called EG. 5.1, which is derived from Omicron. Globally,
Eris has also been found by World Health Organization since mid-February, but this variant entered the
UK since July.

In the last 7 days, 4,076 people tested positive for Covid-19 in the UK, up 27.8% from the previous week.
1,438 Covid-19 patients were hospitalized, up 40.7% from the previous week. After the case of the spread
of the Corona virus or Covid-19, the Eris variant exploded again in the UK, making the World Health
Organization open its voice.

The Eris variant after being classified by the World Health Organization as a variant under monitoring in
July, after its prevalence was recorded in the UK, and increasing cases internationally especially in the
Asian region.

World Health Organization Director-General, Tedros Adanom Ghebreyesus, also warned that although
people are protected with vaccines and previous infections, country authorities should not be caught off
guard by this variant,

herefore the World Health Organization also continues to urge people at high risk to wear masks in
crowded places, get boosters if recommended, and ensure adequate ventilation indoors.
