Overview

Reuniclus is a unique Calm Mind user in the OU

metagame that makes use of its solid typing,
bulk, and access to Magic Guard and Recover
to quickly overwhelm passive teams that rely
on more passive Pokemon like Toxapex,
Celesteela, and Tangrowth. Thanks to these
traits, Reuniclus is also a really effective stall
and balance breaker. In addition to this, if
opted for, it can outlast Dark-types like
Tyranitar and Mega Tyranitar with the
combination of Acid Armor and Toxic Spikes or
Spikes support, making it a versatile threat.
Reuniclus also finds itself coming out on top in
wars against Calm Mind users like Clefable and
Magearna thanks to its access to Psyshock.
While Reuniclus's bulk is solid, Reuniclus is
very slow and will often have to take a hit
before it can move, which can force it into
rather awkward situations when attempting to
set up. If Reuniclus opts to run Acid Armor, it
will find itself overly reliant on Toxic Spikes
and Spikes support, meaning that it has to be
played very patiently before it can pull off a
sweep.

2 Attacks Export

Move 1: Calm Mind

Move 2: Psyshock
Move 3: Focus Blast / Energy Ball
Move 4: Recover

Item: Rocky Helmet / Psychium Z

Ability: Magic Guard
Nature: Bold
EVs: 252 HP / 212 Def / 44 Spe

Moves

Psyshock allows Reuniclus to win Calm Mind

wars against Mega Alakazam and Clefable and
lets it get past Chansey. Focus Blast allows
Reuniclus to KO Dark-types like Greninja and
Tyranitar as well as Steel-types such as
Heatran. It also makes Reuniclus more capable
of handling stall teams utilizing Mega Aggron
than it would be without it. Alternatively,
Energy Ball gives Reuniclus the ability to hit
the aforementioned Dark-types more
accurately as well as Water-types like Mega
Swampert. It also lets Reuniclus hit Mega
Sableye, Pyukumuku, and Quagsire, which
makes it possible to break through stall teams
utilizing Mega Sableye. Signal Beam hits Dark-
and Psychic-types like Hoopa-U, Mega
Alakazam, and opposing Reuniclus. However,
because of the move’s lower Base Power,
Reuniclus struggles more against bulky Dark-
types like Tyranitar and Hydreigon.

Set Details

44 Speed EVs allow Reuniclus to outspeed

Toxapex and set up against it before it uses
Haze. Rocky Helmet lets Reuniclus switch into
and wear down Mega Medicham and Mega
Lopunny. Psychium Z gives Reuniclus a way to
break past or wear down Pokemon that can
ordinarily take a boosted Psyshock and
potentially beat Reuniclus one-on-one like
Mega Scizor, specially defensive Tapu Bulu,
Tapu Fini if Reuniclus isn't running Energy Ball,
and Kartana if Reuniclus is using Energy Ball.
Fightinium Z with Focus Blast lets Reuniclus
overcome bulky Steel- and Dark-types like
Heatran, Hydreigon, both Greninja formes, and
both Tyranitar formes. It's also worth noting
that Focus Blast boosted by Fightinium Z never
misses, making it reliable in scenarios where
you can't afford to miss.

Usage Tips

Early-game, Reuniclus should attempt to stay

healthy to check Pokemon such as Mega
Medicham, Mega Lopunny, and Protean
Greninja. Be careful about what to set up on
early-game, as Reuniclus will often be forced
out, and the opposing team will still be healthy
enough to check it. Try to set up entry hazards
early-game to use Reuniclus to force in checks
like Greninja, Tyranitar, and Heatran that are
easily worn down to facilitate a late-game
sweep. If Reuniclus is running Focus Blast,
take advantage of the fact that it can often
lure in Dark-types that think they're safe hard
switching in and try to catch them on the
switch. However, be sure to sufficiently wear
down Tyranitar into range of Focus Blast.
Reuniclus should attempt to set up on
Pokemon that can’t severely threaten it like
Ferrothorn, Celesteela, and Chansey.

Team Options

Spikes helps wear down the opposing team,

which makes it easier for Reuniclus to facilitate
a late-game sweep. Ferrothorn and both
Greninja formes are good options for this.
Pursuit support is useful in removing opposing
Psychic- and Ghost-types like Mega Alakazam,
Mega Latias, and Blacephalon for Reuniclus.
Mega Tyranitar and Weavile are good partners
for this. Despite Reuniclus having coverage for
Dark-types like the Greninja and Tyranitar
formes, they are still an issue in a one-on-one
situation, so checks for Dark-types like Tapu
Fini, Tapu Bulu, and Toxapex are needed.
Magnezone works well with Reuniclus by
threatening and removing Mega Scizor, which
is quite troublesome for Reuniclus otherwise.

Double Dance Export

Move 1: Calm Mind

Move 2: Acid Armor
Move 3: Psyshock
Move 4: Recover

Item: Leftovers / Rocky Helmet

Ability: Magic Guard
Nature: Bold
EVs: 252 HP / 212 Def / 44 Spe

Moves

Acid Armor makes Reuniclus bulky enough to

take on physical Dark-types such as Weavile
and Tyranitar as well as Curse Mega Scizor if it
manages to set it up safely. Psyshock allows
Reuniclus to take on other Calm Mind
sweepers such as Clefable, Magearna, and
Mega Alakazam, as well as Chansey.

Set Details

The given EV spread maximizes Reuniclus's

physical bulk and allows it to outspeed
Toxapex. Leftovers gives Reuniclus a form of
passive recovery. Rocky Helmet is another
option that notably allows Reuniclus to wear
down Tyranitar and Mega Tyranitar by itself.
Magic Guard is the preferred ability to ignore
Toxic poison and similar status ailments, which
sets it apart from other sweepers.

Usage Tips

Use Reuniclus to check Pokemon such as Mega

Medicham, Mega Lopunny, and Protean
Greninja early-game. Switch Reuniclus into
Steel-types like Ferrothorn and Celesteela and
other passive Pokemon such as Toxapex and
Tangrowth to use them as setup bait. Use
Recover liberally to stay healthy throughout
the match to stay out of range from critical
hits and to consistently check Fighting-types.
If Toxic Spikes is up on the opposing side of
the field, use Reuniclus to force in a Dark-type
such as Ash-Greninja, Weavile, or Tyranitar. In
a situation where Weavile or Tyranitar is
expected to switch in, Reuniclus should use
Acid Armor so that it can set up safely after. If
Toxic Spikes isn't up on the field, Reuniclus
should either double switch out to a teammate
that can take on these respective Dark-types
or use Acid Armor to safely escape Pursuit.

Team Options

Toxic Spikes or Spikes is essential whenever

using Reuniclus. Toxapex is a very notable
Toxic Spikes setter, as it fits on most bulky
builds very well. Greninja can be used too.
Toxapex also checks Ash-Greninja, which
forces out Reuniclus, even after the use of
Calm Mind. Reuniclus appreciates the presence
of Spikes on the opposing field because it
wears down usual switch-ins. Ferrothorn
usually fits better on defensive teams and
checks Ash-Greninja as well. Tyranitar and
Weavile can Pursuit trap bulky Psychic-types
that can usually trouble Reuniclus, such as
Mega Latias.

Other Options

Reuniclus can run a spread of 248 HP / 136

Def / 80 SpD / 44 Spe with a Bold nature and
Leftovers to avoid being 2HKOed by Moonblast
and Thunderbolt from Mega Diancie and Tapu
Koko prior to set up, respectively.

Checks and Counters

Dark-types: Dark-types such as Ash-

Greninja, Tyranitar, Weavile, and Hoopa-U put
heavy pressure on Reuniclus, and it usually
has to rely on Toxic Spikes or PP stalling them
to sweep. Mega Sableye walls Reuniclus's
usual set and can utilize Imprison to prevent
Reuniclus from using Recover, and it only really
has to watch out for variants with Energy Ball
or Signal Beam. Mega Gyarados is one of the
best counters to Reuniclus, as its base forme is
immune to Toxic Spikes, and it sets up on
Reuniclus once it's Mega Evolved. Hydreigon
also deserves a special mention, as it is
immune to Spikes and Toxic Spikes thanks to
Levitate and is immune to Reuniclus's Psychic-
type attacks as well.

Ghost-types: Ghost-types such as

Blacephalon, Gengar, and Alolan Marowak can
offensively check Reuniclus, but they are
susceptible to repeated attacks from Reuniclus
and entry hazards.

Taunt and Trick: Taunt users such as

Heatran, Tapu Lele, and Tapu Fini prevent
Reuniclus from using any of its status moves
and can thus prevent it from sweeping. Trick
users such as Victini and Hoopa-U can cripple
Reuniclus.

Strong Wallbreakers: Strong wallbreakers

such as Mega Mawile and Kartana can
overwhelm Reuniclus before it sets up.
