CANADIAN COUNCIL OF TECHNICIANS ANDTECHNOLOGISTS

INFORMAL ASSESSMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPLIED SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING TECHNICIANS AND TECHNOLOGISTS
Immigration Procedures The Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists (CCTT) works with Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) in assessing the Applied Science and Engineering Technology qualifications of people applying for permanent residence in Canada who intend to work as technicians or technologists. The purpose of this assessment is to evaluate the likelihood of acceptance into the examination program by a provincial technology association. A positive outcome is valuable information to visa officers. They take it into account when they assess your application for permanent residence in Canada. It does not guarantee they will approve your application, but it will definitely be a factor in your favour. A negative outcome is valuable information for you. It tells you that applying to immigrate to Canada with the intention of working here as a technician or technologist without further formal education is unrealistic, based on your educational background and experience. The assessment result is used as an occupational designation for immigration purposes only. Canadian provinc ial technology associations (certification bodies) are not bound in any way by this initial immigration assessment. They will conduct their own assessment of certification applicants, for which fees will be charged. The granting of a visa does not guarantee acceptance for certification. The Technology Profession in Canada In Canada, technology is not a regulated profession. Certification is voluntary and not required in order to work as a technician or technologist in Canada. Certification is carried out by the provincial technology associations according to national standards. Once certified as a full member of a provincial association, technologists are known either as Certified Engineering Technologists, Applied Science Technologists, or Registered Engineering Technologists, depending on the province in which they receive certification, and are entitled to use the designations "C.E.T", "A.Sc.T", or "R.E.T." respectively after their names. Technicians are known as Certified Technicians and are entitled to use the designation C. Tech after their names. In Canada, it is illegal to use the CET, AScT, RET, or C.Tech designations, without being certified as a full member of an association. This informal assessment is undertaken solely for immigration purposes and does not guarantee you eventual certification in Canada. Once you arrive in Canada, if you wish to become certified, you must apply for certification with a provincial association. You will be required to pay a registration fee and successfully complete any required examinations. A formal assessment of your qualifications will be undertaken, which will also determine the appropriate amount of North American experience required. This informal assessment will have no bearing on the formal assessment carried out by a provincial association.

Filling out the Informal Assessment Form Fill out ALL sections in FULL. Use extra sheets of paper, if necessary. B: Personal Information: Include your complete mailing address. State your date of birth in the format day/month/year. Representative's name: If you have a representative acting on your behalf, please include full name and address. C: D: Province of intended destination: State the province where you intend to live if you immigrate to Canada. What City do you intend to apply for a Canadian Visa? Technology education: Include all university or college-level education, noting each institution's city and country. Be sure to include the full and correct name of any institutions you list. If the institution has changed names since you graduated, include both the old and new names. Attach a certified and translated copy of your degree or diploma and transcripts (course marks). Do not send originals, or any documentation you would like to have returned to you. Documentation sent to CCTT is only held for a specified period of time after the assessment is finalized, and will be destroyed, unless otherwise specified by the applicant. Registration or certification as a technician, technologist, or engineer: Include full name of the registering body, (i.e. Institution of Electrical and Electronic Incorporated Engineers, London) and full name of membership (i.e. associate member, corporate member, engineering member, license to practice, etc.). Attach a certified copy of your membership certificate. Course descriptions: It is very important to include a course calendar, prospectus, syllabus, or curriculum pertaining to the institution and to the program studied (please see example attached). All course descriptions must be certified and translated copies. If this documentation is impossible to obtain, certified and translated copies of classroom notes or exams taken would also assist the CCTT in making a fair assessment. Please note, however, that if course descriptions are available, providing them along with your application could prevent much delay and confusion later in the evaluation process. Significant experience: Attach a brief, but detailed, resum or curriculum vit listing dates, positions held and a brief description of job duties. Click here to download an example Applicant's declaration: Please read the consent statement. Ensure that everything is clear, then sign and date the form. Payment of Fees: Please complete the section and make sure you write down the name of the Institution and the cheque number. Result of informal assessment: For CCTT use only.
