Note! Before tightening pump bolts, rotate pump clockwise & then counter clockwise, then split the difference
and tighten pump bolts down at the point half way between the range of movement. Now install gear and
tighten nut to proper spec. Now unlock pump and finish assembly of timing cover.

Attention: This Sketch is the Second in the evolution to help us more accurately time the High Pressure pump until a good
tool is available. The first indicated an additional 1/3 to ½ advance into the space. After modifying the handle of the latest pump
tool, with only .0005 clearance in the key way of the pump shaft and .001 clearance in the handle to the block, the actual location
of the wide tooth relative to the sensor opening on a new pump from CAT is as this sketch shows.

Gentlemen,

As written in the DSN ticket below we know that the tool 278-2639 give us
a wrong timing.
So find attached the document showing how we are supposed to time the
fuel injection pump for a C4.4 & C6.6.
I happen really often to have problem with the relief valve on the fuel rail. In
this case we have the Event code E398. I'm waiting Perkins to give me the
part number of the relief as a single part. If any of you guys have already this
information please forward.

Hello Clovis, The problem is that all of the current timing tools may
allow too much tolerance. The Perkins Service Engineer is currently
working with the Special Tool Group for a new tool design. I do not know
when the new tool will be available. My best guess is mid 2008. I have
received the following illustration that better shows the correct timing ring
location for your reference. As I get more information I will pass along to
you. Best regards, Jeff
