Arunachal Pradesh

Introduction
Arunachal Pradesh is the easternmost state of India. It is known for
Its snow-capped mountains, extensive woodlands and fauna that are
too good to describe in words. This state looks heavenly in winter.
Perhaps winter is the best season to visit Arunachal Pradesh!
Arunachal Pradesh has the first sunrise in the entire India and it is
the 2nd state in India to have the most forest.
Arunachal Pradesh is the orchid state of India because of its large
number of species of orchids. There are about 610 species of orchids
found in Arunachal Pradesh.
Apart from that, Arunachal Pradesh is a very diverse state. It has
26 major tribes and more than 100 sub-tribes and each one of them
has its own festivals, culture and tradition. There are about 50
languages spoken in Arunachal Pradesh.

(1) Namdapha national park & tiger reserve

Namdapha national park and tiger reserve is home to disparate


species of flora and fauna. It is located in the Changlang district. It
was established in the year 1983. It is named after a river called
Namdapha.
It is the fourth-largest national park in India and it is the only
national park in the world which is a dwelling for the four big cats
which are the tiger, the leopard, the clouded leopard and the most
elusive cat which is the snow leopard. It also shelters many
endangered species of fauna like the Hoolock gibbon, the White-
winged Wood duck and the red panda. In addition, it is also rich in
flora, It has about 150 species of wood. It contains a rare species of
orchid which is blue vanda.
(2) Sela Pass

Sela Pass is a popular mountain pass which connects the Tawang


district to the West Kameng district. There are around 101 lakes in
and near Sela Pass, one of the most popular lakes is Sela Lake.
During the winter season, the temperature decreases up to -15
degrees because of its altitude.
During the Sino - Indian war also called the Battle of Nuranang of
1962, four soldiers were ordered to fight with the Chinese force at
Nuranang.
On 17 November 1962, Tirilok Singh was hit by a gun, Jaswant
Singh Rawat was badly hurt on his head and Gopal Singh also had
a wound. But still, Jaswant Singh Rawat managed to kill about 300
Chinese soldiers. Jaswant Singh Rawat even got a command to
excavate from the post but he didn't follow it.
Unfortunately, Jaswant Singh Rawat died on 17 November 1962.
It is believed that there were two ladies named Sela and Nura whose
work was to provide food to him and they also helped him during
the war. People say that Sela the lady who the place was named
after, was martyred and Nura was captured by Chinese soldiers.
After this incident, Nuranang was named Jaswant Garh to respect
the brave soldier Jaswant Singh Rawat.
Jaswant Singh Rawat was awarded Maha Vir Chakra.

(3) Ziro Valley

Ziro Valley is a beautiful and picture-perfect town located in the


district of Lower Subansiri. It is 106.6km away from the capital
city of Arunachal Pradesh and has an area of 337 square km.
This place is an excellent option for all those people who like a
peaceful and calm environment. This place is a World Heritage
Site.
It is one of the oldest towns in Arunachal Pradesh. People living
in Ziro Valley are commonly from the Apatani tribe and it is the
residence of about 26,000 Apatani. People from the Apatani tribe
worship the sun and the moon. Ziro Valley is famous for its rice
fields and its extraordinary culture. Therefore, if you are visiting
Arunachal Pradesh don't forget to add this place to your travel
bucket list!
