ORISSA

It is located in the North Eastern part of India and is bounded by the


states of Jharkhand and West Bengal to the north, by the Bay of Bengal
to the east, by the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to the south
and Chhattisgarh to the west. Before India became independent in
1947, Odisha’s capital was Cuttack. The present capital is
Bhubaneshwar now.
SLOGAN
 It’s tourism slogan is “The Soul Of Incredible India”.
 Orissa boasts of a rich history, fascinating tribal culture, natural beauty and
since it has a long coastline there are some elements of sun and sand.
 It houses of the most well known temples and it’s capital city is often called
the “City Of Temples”.
 It is home to some of the most delicious dishes made daily in one of the
largest kitchens- Jagannath Temple.
 Chilika lake is the biggest brackish water lake and the largest coastal lagoon
in India.
ANIMAL OF ORISSA
 The state animal of Orissa is the Sambar Deer.
 Deer are perhaps the most ancient of all the typical ruminants.
 Sambar is a kind of deer like a Kashmir stag, Barking deer, Mouse
deer, etc.
 It is the largest deer and bears the grandest horns. It’s height is
nearly 5 ft. and the average length of the horn is 3 ft.
 They are distributed in the wooded districts of India, Burma and
Ceylon.
BIRD OF ORISSA

 The state bird of Orissa is Indian Roller.


 They are generally found in thin forest and grassland.
 They have purplish lilac with white shaft streaks and
they have strong beaks.
 It’s size is between 25 to 35 cm including the tail.
 They generally feed on nuts, seeds, shrubs, grains, small
insects, etc.
FLORA AND FAUNA OF ORISSA
 With the presence of vast, thick and dense forests, which cover
almost 55,000 sq km area of Orissa.
 Almost one-third of Orissa is covered by forests which make up about
37.34% of the total land area of the state. These forests cover most
of southern and western Orrisa and the eastern plains adjacent to
the coast are covered by farmlands.
 Orrisa has a diverse variety of plants and animals. Orrisa's forests
yield large quantities of teak, bamboo, rosewood, sal, etc.
WEST BENGAL

It is bounded to the north by the state of Sikkim and the


country of Bhutan, to the northeast by the state of Assam, to
the east by the country of Bangladesh, to the south by
the Bay of Bengal, to the southwest by the state of Orissa, to
the west by the states of Jharkhand and Bihar, and to the
northwest by the country of Nepal. It’s capital is Kolkata.
West Bengal’s climate is transitional between tropical wet-
dry in the southern portions and humid subtropical in the
north.
SLOGAN
 It’s tourism slogan is “Beautiful Bengal”.
 The state of West Bengal has significant architectural
and natural heritage.
 West Bengal is famous for its terracotta temples of
Bishnupur.
 West Bengal also has some more geographical
indications like handicrafts, tea, mangoes, sea beaches,
etc.
ANIMAL OF WEST BENGAL
 The state animal of West Bengal is “Fishing Cat”.
 About twice the size of a typical house cat, the fishing
cat is a feline with a powerful build and stocky legs.
 The size of an adult ranges from 57-78 cm and weighs
between 5-16 kg.
 It is an adapt swimmer and enters water frequently to
prey on fish and is known to even dive to catch fish.
BIRD OF WEST BENGAL
 The state bird of West Bengal is “White-throated
Kingfisher”.
 They can often be found well away from water where it
feeds on a wide range of prey which includes small
rodents, reptiles, crabs, etc.
 It has a bright blue back, wings and tail. It’s head,
shoulders, flank and lower belly are chestnut. The large
bill and legs are bright red.
FLORA AND FAUNA OF WEST BENGAL
 The flora and fauna of West Bengal possess the combined
characteristics of the Himalayan and sub Himalayan
Gangetic plain.
 Darjeeling (2439) is well ahead in floral diversity followed by
Medinipur (871); Jalpaiguri (789) and Murshidabad (725).
 Highest number of fauna is present in Kolkata (4256), and
then in Darjeeling (4166), Jalpaiguri (1563), South 24 Pgs
(1516), North 24 Pgs (943) etc.
