10.1 SHUTDOWN PROCEDURE
a) Prepare and apply for work permit and obtain approval from Kahramaa (If work permit
already exists for the activity, ensure its valid and covers the relevant scope of work)
b) Get the relevant Confirmation from M/s TDGISERV.
c) After the Confirmation from M/s TDGISERV, Open the LV ACB and confirm the same to
Kahramaa Switching Engineer and M/s TDGISERV Engineer.
d) Now the Kahramaa Switching Engineer gets the confirmation from DCC and the respective
Engineer will Open the VCB.
e) Once the Zero Potential confirmation, the Kahramaa Switching Engineer will Close the
Earth switch at MV Panel.
f) After this, Kahramaa Switching Engineer will issue the PTW to Kahramaa approved LOA
Holder.
g) Discharge the transformer by using Discharge Rod. Confirm ‘Zero Potential’.
h) Complete the Look Think Do LTD assessment as applicable
i) Tools, instruments, method statement, checklist, SDS (as applicable) and other related
items shall be prepared and carried to the work location.
j) Ensure all the required PPE are available and worn as needed.

10.2 RE – ENERGISATION PROCEDURE

a) Ensure Tools and instruments are taken out from the transformer before closing the
Transformer outer cover.
b) Check the tightness of LV Cables and confirm the neutral connections.
c) Check the Temperature controller settings are set at 120°C Alarm and 140°C as trip.
d) Inform to Kahramaa Switching Engineer and cancel the PTW and give the work front
to re – energise the transformer.
e) Then Inform to M/s TDGISERV Engineer and get the confirmation before
energisation.
f) Kahramaa Switching Engineer will give the Confirmation to DCC and Open the Earth
Switch
g) Then rack in the VCB and will close the VCB.
h) After closing of VCB, check the Voltage at voltmeter / Energymeter / Multimeter.
i) Rack in the ACB and normalise the Power back and put the system in normal position.

11. MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE

11.1. INSULATION RESISTANCE TEST
1. Check visually all bushings are free from dust and foreign materials.
2. Ensure the transformer is fully isolated from the power system.
3. Discharge the static charges of the transformer by Earthing rods
4. Remove the neutral grounding.
5. Using Megger (MIT515), Connect 5000 Volts mega ohm meter ‘Line’ terminal into HV side of
the transformer and connect ‘Earth’ terminal into transformer body.
6. Switch on the mega ohm meter.
7. Note down the mega ohm readings at 60 seconds.
8. Discharge the transformer windings from the static energy induced due to mega ohm meter.
9. Check the Insulation Resistance value of the transformer at 60 seconds should be greater than
1000 Mega ohms.
10. Repeat these procedures for LV side to Earth and HV side to LV side references also.
11. Record the readings based as below formats.

CONNECTIONS

As per IEC 60076- 1:2011

Measured Insulation Resistance for 1

Test Condition
Minute
HV to Earth @ 5000 V
LV to Earth @ 1000 V
HV to LV @ 5000 V

11.2. TURNS RATIO TEST

The turns-ratio test detects shorted turns, which indicate insulation failure. Shorted turns may result
from short circuits with high currents or insulation failures. The voltage ratio obtained by the test is
compared to the name plate voltage ratio. The ratio obtained from the field test should agree with the
factory value to within 0.5%. New transformers normally compare to the name plate within 0.1%. With the
described test system, it is additionally possible to measure the ratio with magnitude and phase angle over
a wide frequency range.

1. Ensure the transformer is discharged from all the static charges.

2. Connect the HV terminals of ratio meter on the HV side of transformer as per sequence.
3. Connect the LV terminals of ratio meter on the LV side of transformer as per sequence.
4. Keep the tap position of the transformer as minimum tap (tap no: 3)
5. Measure the HV to LV ratio of the transformer winding.
6. Measure the phase angle difference between HV and LV windings
7. Repeat this procedure for all tap positions
8. Check the Ratio obtained with original ratio in name plate details.
9. Ensure the percentage difference between the original and obtained values are less than + or —
0.5% from factory testing.
10. Automatic kit generated report will be attached in the report.

11.3. WINDING RESISTANCE TEST

Since the winding resistances are very small; the test set is connected in 4-wire configuration. It has
to be observed that the contact resistances of the connection clamps do not falsify the measuring result. A
constant current source is used to feed a direct current into the winding. The test current should be at least
1% of the rated current to bring the core into saturation. On the other hand, it should not exceed 15% of
the rated current to avoid temperature rise during measurement. A relatively high no-load voltage enables
a quick saturation of the core and a final value with only minor fluctuations is reached. Therefore, in most
cases the charging time per tap is distinctly less than 30 seconds. By pressing one button on the test system,
all values are logged and a test report is automatically generated. The resistance values are automatically
corrected to the reference temperature by automatic calculation utilizing the following formula:

Where,
Rm = Measured value of Resistance
Tm = Temp. During measurement

1. Remove all busbar connections from terminals of the transformer.

2. Verify the measurement settings and modify them if required.
3. Enter the Test Conditions in the CPC 100.
4. Select the measurement to be performed and connect output and inputs of the CPC100
5. Start the measurement.
6. Asses the results.
7. The transformer core is magnetized after the measurement. CPC 100 will demagnetize the
transformer core automatically.
8. Recommend the measurement ranges for DC 400 A: 1µΩ to 10mΩ
9. Automatic kit generated report will be attached in the report.
