Faced with environmental challenges of reusing and recycling, in light of

economic challenges, these guidelines are formulated to ensure the safety of re-
using hospital supplies and equipment with the end in view of preventing disease
transmission.

Guidelines:

1. All re-usable equipment to be sterilized or disinfected, must be thoroughly

washed with soap and water until all visible signs of soiling are removed
such as blood, tissue, food or other residue.

2. The health care worker must wear personal protective equipment such
rubber gloves, gown, face shield or eye protection like goggles or face
mask when cleaning and disinfecting respiratory equipment. Cleaning
should precede any high level of disinfection activity.

3. Soiled gloves with a tear must be replaced immediately after proper hand
hygiene has been done and to discard it in an infectious waste container,
the same manner is done with face mask splashed with contaminated
materials.

4. The re-usable items or equipment must be rinsed properly, kept dry before
sterilization process is done.

5. Disinfected / sterilized items must be individually packed and stored in a

clean, dust free storage area.
