Portfolio 1 - Introduction

For this portfolio entry, complete: (1) the attached lesson/activity outline below demonstrating
how your selected technology could be used in an activity, (3) an original technology product to
demonstrate that you have acquired necessary technical skills, and (4) a personal reflection
regarding the use of the technology.

As evidence of proof of completion, each student is required to upload the portfolio to their
Weebly website, submit a screenshot of the webpage + the direct URL (not to the Weebly.com
home page) for each portfolio element. The timestamp on the Assignment drop box in D2L
serves as proof of submission. Some components of the portfolio may allow for group work;
however, each individual student will turn in the specific URL to the portfolio item in the D2L
Assignment drop box by the specified due date – Friday, 8/25 by 2:15pm.

PART 1 – Portfolio Entry (50 Points)

Activity Name: showing technique to athletes

Grade Level: 9-12th

Content Focus: Film on a specific wrestling techniques

Standard: Standard 30:

Know the skills, elements of skill combinations and techniques,
competition strategies and tactics, and the rules associated with the
sport being coached.

Equipment Needed: Projector and projector screen.

Technology Needed: (Select at least 1 of the function areas below)

Function Technology Type & Description
For management and communication, I will use GroupMe with my
Management and
athletes to provide them with a link to an open google doc that they
Communication
can ask questions/ take notes.
I will use YouTube to provide the technique shown. Plan to use a
Instruction
projector to show the students.
Assessment will be done after by having the athletes provide a
Assessment
video of them completing the technique.
Set-Up: Complete diagram of how the activity space will look

Protocols: For safety concerns don’t mess with projector or cords that could impact the film.

Set Induction/Intro: Paragraph on how you will introduce activity to make it fun and engaging.
Explain the purpose of the activity for skill development.
I will introduce the group of athletes to the technique session before practice starts. With this I
will introduce them to the screen as well as tell them the exciting techniques they will be going
over today. Potentially hand out clipboards and papers of specific techniques shown so they
have a diagram to look at as well. Additionally have a question slot on a google doc for them to
fill out so they can ask questions without interrupting the session with ease. The purpose of this
activity is to provide a quick way to show students multiple techniques without wasting
precious practice time answering many different questions as well as learning the sport more in
depth.

Task: Description of what you expect students/athletes to do. This should explain how you are
going to teach your activity and have all the components of managing Time, Space, Equipment.

With management of this technique session, I will have the students seated in chairs facing
towards the screen with their phones out. Explain to them that we only have a small amount of
time to complete this task so to make sure to put questions on the google doc provided. I
expect the athletes to stay quiet during the session and pay attention to what is shown so they
can get the most out of it. Additionally explain to them the safety procedures. Once finished
with the session have the students put the chairs away while I will put away the technology.
This session would ideally be held in the wrestling room or even a classroom to make clean up
and set up potentially quicker.

Closure: 3-4 sentences on how you will wrap-up the activity and review the skills taught in the
activity as a wrap up of the technique film session I will ask if the students could explain to me
what techniques were shown and the specific positions, they were in. Additionally, have the
students give me their feedback on the techniques. Using this feedback, I will reflect on and
hopefully provide a better technique film session the next time.

PART 2 – Reflection (10 Points)

Based on the technology and function(s) of the technology in the above portfolio, in roughly two
paragraphs, reflect on integrating the learned technology into your future career. Outline why
you selected the technology, what the benefits will be for the students/athletes and anticipate
what their reactions will be to the technology and lesson/activity. Further, describe how you
plan to keep students/athletes engaged and how you plan to collect feedback from them on
the technology’s effectiveness.
Technology is definitely something that I plan to use in my future career. With how Coaching
and physical education and health is forever changing its important to keep up with the many
different things to be as optimal as possible. I selected GroupMe, google docs, and finally
YouTube for this assignment. I decided to use GroupMe as it’s an easy way to communicate
with the athletes and share documents all in one place. Additionally, I used to google docs to
supply the students with a straightforward way to ask questions as well as somewhere to post
the links to them completing the techniques. Finally, I used YouTube to supply the technique
video so that the athletes could see it from another person other than myself. I feel the
reaction to the activity will be something the athletes will be interested in since number one
gives them a way to communicate with me as the coach without feeling pressured in front of
their peers. Additionally, gives the athletes a chance to have a voice.

I plan to keep the athletes engaged by making sure to stress that this portion is very important
to their development as an athlete. I will explain to them that film study is something that all
professional athletes do, and it is a necessity to be a high-level athlete. I plan to use the google
doc as my feedback. This way I have exactly what the athletes want to say without forgetting
the question if it was asked on the mat during practice.
