Introduction
The start blocking device (214 001) ensures that the engine cannot be accidently started
when the turning gear is engaged. The blocking device is connected to the starting air
assembly via steel pipes and connections.
On new engines, a part of the control air line closest to the start blocking device is
replaced with flexible hoses. By this change, the vibration level at the blocking device is
decreased. A kit for upgrading operating engines to the same standard as on new
engines has been introduced.
NOTE:
Damages on the starting blocking device can hinder the engine from starting.
Recommendation
Consider this upgrade if mechanical wear is experienced on the start blocking device. A
damaged blocking device should be replaced.
Instructions
The design of the turning gear arrangement, the start blocking device and its pipes
depends on the engine configuration. Hoses of suitable length and diameter, and
connection pieces for each specific engine will be delivered.
Installation
Use the hoses as templates to find the correct place to cut the steel pipe. Fit the hoses
using the connection pieces supplied in the kit. The connection pieces might be straight
or with an angle. Position the connection pieces as the originally installed fittings. If
needed, use steel straps to properly secure the hoses.
ATTENTION:
Route the hoses in a way that the hand wheel on the turning gear is accessible! Do not
twist the hose. The minimum bending radius of a Ø15 mm flexible hose is 120 mm and
76 mm on a Ø8 mm hose.
