Exhaust valves for WÄRTSILÄ® 46 engines

General As a result of continuous development of the WÄRTSILÄ® 46 engines, the
design of the exhaust valves has been modified in several steps.
The purpose of this bulletin is to inform about the exhaust valves (part
number 121 006 or 121 010) that are used and are delivered as spare parts
today.

Identification The valves can be identified from the marking stamped at the end of valve
stem, see figure 3.
1. Stellit coated valves, disc diameter 160 mm.
These are used in engines that are specified for light fuel oil, marine
XXXXXX

Marking diesel oil or gas oil operation. It is also used in 46GD engines using light
fuel oil, marine diesel oil or gas oil as pilot fuel. The marking on the
valve is B0137.

2. Nimonic valves, disc diameter 160 mm.

These are used in engines with exhaust seat rings of stepped seat type
(old execution), see figure 1. The marking on the valve is B0203.

3. Nimonic valves, disc diameter 170 mm.

These are used in engines with exhaust seat rings with a wide sealing
face, see figure 2 above.
The version that has been standardized as 170 mm Nimonic exhaust
valves has a disc height of 12,5 mm and is marked B0375. This valve
can be used with all compression ratios.
The B0375 valve replaces the following valves as spare parts:
Marking Remark
B0314 Valve stem with friction welding, disc height = 14,5 mm
B0361 Valve disc height = 14,3 mm

Note! The valves B0314 and B0361 must not be used in engines with
compression ratio 16:1 (connecting rod shim s=17 mm) because of risk
for contact between the exhaust valve and piston crown.
