The inputs of an OR gate, considering a two-input gate, are represented by a


parallel connection of two switches, switch A and switch B:
~ A closed switch is equivalent to a high (logic 1) input.
~ An open switch is equivalent to a low (logic 0) input.
The output of an OR gate is represented by a lightbulb:
~ A turned-on lightbulb is equivalent to a high (logic 1) output.
~ A turned-off lightbulb is equivalent to a low (logic 0) output.

As shown below, the lightbulb is turned on when at least one of the switches is
closed, which is the same as having at least one input at a high (logic 1) state.
