1) What is transportation?
Ans: Transportation is the movement of people and goods from one location to another.
2) How did early humans travel from one place to another?
Ans: Early humans used to walk or use animals like oxen and horses to carry heavy loads. They also
learnt to build boats to transport them and their goods from one place to another by river.
3) What are the three means of transport? Give two examples for each.
Ans: We use three means of transport- air, land and water.
Air- aeroplane, helicopter
Land- train, bus
Water- ship, boat

4) What are the different kinds of fuels that are used in vehicles?
Ans: Vehicles needs fuel so that they can move. Petrol, diesel, coal, CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) and
electricity are some of the types of fuel we use in vehicles.

Ans: Boat, rickshaw and bicycle do not require fuel.

6) What is communication?
Ans: Sending or receiving information or news is known as communication. Communication can be
between two persons or many persons.
7) What is the most common means of communication?
Ans: Letters are the most common means of communication.
8) What were used to send out urgent messages?
Ans: Telegrams were used to send out urgent messages.
9) What is the purpose of telephone and cellular mobile phones?
Ans: A telephone helps us to talk to someone who lives far from us. We use cellular mobile phones while
we are travelling.
10) What is the purpose of a fax machine?
Ans: A fax machine sends and receives printed messages within a few seconds.
