A. REVIEW LESSON 1. I am a distance divided by time. Who Am I?

2. If you multiply speed by time, what will you get?
3. How long does an object cover a distance of 200 km at
a speed of 40kph?

A. PRESENTING A
NEW LESSON

Who among you know the name of what is in the picture?

Do you have like this at home? I have a poem to read
about this “lakasa” but it’s in Ilokano.

“LAKASA”
Daytoy nga “lakasa” nasurok nga sangagasot ti
tawen na
Tinawid ko kin Lolak nga Mercedez Adriano Medina
Idi kano maiyanak isuna ada kanun daytoy nga
gameng da
Idi tawen sangaribo ket siyam nga gasot ket walo isu ti
pinakiyanak na.

Kalalaingan laeng iti rukod na

Maris na ket maradaga a kuwadrado ti sukog na
Haan nga dakkel haan met nga bassit
39 x 37 x 78 nga kuna da iti matematika.

Pagipanan ti napapateg nga gameng

Kas koma lupot, alahas ken dokdokumentoTi uneg na
ket ada pay pagisiledan iti kuwarta
Mabalin nga tulbekan tapno dida Makita.

Follow Questions:

- How old is the “Lakasa’?

-What is the shape of the “lakasa” according to the poem
that we had just read?
- What are the dimensions of the “Lakasa?”

B. PRESENTING Can you name things around you that has the same
EXAMPLES/ shape as the Lakasa?
INSTANCES OF
NEW LESSON

C. DISCUSSING -Today we will be discussing the surface area of solid

NEW CONCEPTS figures focusing on rectangular prism.
AND
PRACTICING - Surface Area refers to the total area of the surface of
NEW SKILLS solid figures.

- Surface Area is the sum of the areas of the base(s) and

the lateral faces of a solid figure. One way to find the
surface are of a solid figure is to find the area of its net.

- One example is the “Lakasa”.

-Many of the solids we come across are combinations of

special types of three-dimensional figures such as prisms,
cylinders, pyramids, cones, and spheres. Measurement of
the surface area is very important to us if we are
concerned with the quantities of materials used to cover
the surface area. The sum of the areas of all external
surfaces of a three-dimensional object is called the total
surface area (TSA).

- In finding the total surface area of a rectangle we use the

formula SA = 2(l x w) + 2(w x h) + 2(l x h).

Wherein; SA - Surface Area, l – length, w – width and h -

height

-Now, if we are going to compute the surface of the

“Lakasa” where L= 78cm, W= 37cm, H= 39 we use the
formula, SA = 2(l x w) + 2(w x h) + 2(l x h).
By substitution it will become;
SA = 2(78 x 37) + 2(37 x 39) + 2(678 x 39)
SA = 2(2886) + 2(1443) + 2(3042)
SA = 5772 cm2 + 2886 cm2 + 6084 cm2
SA = 108 cm2

E. DEVELOPING Let’s have some exercises

MASTERY (LEADS TO
FORMATIVE
ASSESSMENT)

1. We use the formula, SA = 2(l x w) + 2(w x h) + 2(l x h).

SA = 2(6 x 3) + 2(3 x 4) + 2(6 x 4)
SA = 2(18) + 2(12) + 2(24)
SA = 36 cm2 + 24 cm2 + 48 cm2
SA = 108 cm2

2. We use the formula,

SA = 2(l x w) + 2(w x h) + 2(l x h).
SA = 2(7 x 4) + 2(4 x 2) + 2(7 x 2)
SA = 2(28) + 2(8) + 2(14)
SA = 56 cm2 + 16 cm2 + 28 cm2
SA = 100 cm2
