C. Motivation
Title: “Illustrate me”
Now let us proceed to the most exciting part.
I think some of you were thinking or asking
yourself why sir Mark is wearing a king crown
and why there is a set-up of Castle inside the
classroom.
So, here is the story, listen carefully.
I am the king of what I called The Kingdom of
Quadrilaterals. My kingdom is divided into
three sub-kingdoms, which I called, kingdom of
trapezoid, kingdom of kite and lastly, kingdom
of parallelogram
Just like in Tarlac City we have a Mayor who
runs the whole Kingdom of Tarlac City and this
city is divided into different barangays which
is led by different chairman right? Yes, Sir
The kingdom of trapezoid and the kingdom of
kite have already a leader.
However, the kingdom of parallelogram does
not have any leader who will lead that kingdom.
I know you are divided into 5 groups, right? Yes, Sir
So, one of the groups will have a chance to lead
the kingdom of parallelogram by taking and
accepting all the challenges throughout the
lesson.
Note that, for every challenge each group
should have different representative.
We have 3 challenges
Challenge 1: Illustrate Me
Challenge 2: Find Me
Challenge 3: Demonstrate What I Learned
The top or leading group throughout the
challenges will lead the kingdom of
parallelogram.
Are you ready? Yes Sir
Last meeting, I told you that every group should
prepare a 10seconds or 2-3 sentences jingle for
our roll-call
The question is, did you prepare your jingle? Yes Sir
Let’s start our roll-call to check if every group
are now ready
Where are the group 1, the yellow eagle? (Group 1 perform their jingle)
How about the group 2, the green vipers (Group 2 perform their jingle)
(Group 3 perform their jingle)
Next group, where are the group 3, the blue
shark
(Group 4 perform their jingle)
How about the group 4, the red tiger
Last but not the least, where are the group 5? (Group 5 perform their jingle)
The orange Fox
It seems like you are now ready and eager to
lead the kingdom of parallelogram
So, for your first challenge
Direction:
1. I prepare 5 cut-out shapes of parallelogram
and different symbols such as congruent
side, parallel side, congruent angles and
diagonals.
2. You need to illustrate the given conditions
that a quadrilateral is a parallelogram.
3. Every group will choose a representative
that will illustrate the given condition.
4. If you are done recite your yell as a group to
recognize as the first group who are able to
finish.
5. The first group who will get the correct
answer will receive one point which move
one step forward on the race.
Are we clear? Yes, Sir
So, let’s start
1. A quadrilateral is a parallelogram if its
opposite sides are congruent.
1.
2. A quadrilateral is a parallelogram if its
opposite sides are parallel. 2.
3. A quadrilateral is a parallelogram if its 3.
opposite angles are congruent
4. A quadrilateral is a parallelogram if its
4.
diagonals bisect each other.
5. A quadrilateral is a parallelogram if its
consecutive angles are supplementary 5.
Congratulation to the (leading group)
Class, did you find it fun? Yes Sir
Great! I hope you remember this game
because we can use this on our next topic.
Which is Using Properties to Find Measures of
Angles, Sides and Other Quantities Involving
Parallelograms
So, let’s start!
D. Lesson Proper
We have 6 properties of parallelogram
First property is
Can someone please read property number 1 (Student read the Property 1)
Property 1: In a parallelogram, opposite sides
are parallel and congruent.
Number 2? (Student read the Property 2)
Property 2: In a parallelogram, any opposite
angles are congruent
Next number 3? (Student read the Property 3)
Property 3: In a parallelogram, any consecutive
angles are supplementary
Number 4? (Student read the Property 4)
Property 4: If at least one of the angles is a
right angle, then all the other angles will be
right angle
Number 5? (Student read the Property 5)
Property 5: The two diagonals of a
parallelogram bisect each other.
Lastly number 6?
Property 6: Each diagonal of a parallelogram (Student read the Property 6)
forms two congruent triangles.
So those are the 6 properties of parallelogram,
however we will only discuss today the first 2
two properties which are the Property 1 and
Property 2
So, let us start with Property number 1, Sir, Property 1 states that opposite sides are
Can you state the Property 1(call students) parallel and congruent.
As you can see in our illustration, we have
parallelogram LOVE.
From our illustration can someone give me one
opposite side that are parallel? Sir, L O ║ EV .
Yes, that’s right
Another one? Sir, L E ǁ OV
Very good!
Next, same illustration, parallelogram LOVE
Give the 2 pairs of congruent sides from our Sir, the 2 congruent sides are, L O≅ EV and
given figure. L E ≅ OV .
Exactly!
And again, remember when we say congruent,
we have the same measure, means, L O is same
measure with EV , as well as the measure of
L E and OV
Let’s have an example:
Example 1: □CALM
By applying Property 1, if CM =15 what is the
length of AL? Sir, by applying property 1 wherein opposite
sides are parallel and congruent, therefore
AL is also equal to 15
Very good!
Example 2: □NIKE
By applying Property 1, if ¿=20 what is the
length of EK ? Sir, EK=20
Example 3:
□LOVE is a parallelogram, if the measure of
L O is 4x+10 and EV is 6x find x and the
measure of each side
In solving this problem we will follow 4 steps to
answer the question, and our first step is:
Step 1: Draw the given figure
It is important to draw our figure to visualize
our problem.
Step 2: Identify the relationship of the given.
What are the given sides? Sir, Segment LO and EV
What is the relationship of these given sides?
They are? Sir, opposite sides
Exactly!
So, by applying property 1 opposite side are Sir, the opposite sides are parallel and
what? congruent
So therefore, LO ≅ EV
Next step,
Step 3: Formulate and solve the equation
This time we will solve the value of x
LO ≅ EV
First is substitute the given measures of the
sides
4x+10=6x
Then transpose and combine like terms
If we transpose 4x what will happen to its sign? Sir, from positive 4x, it will become
10=6x-4x negative 4x
10=2 x
Since we are looking for the value of x,
What do you think the next step? Sir, divide both sides of the equation by 2
Yes correct, divide both sides of the equation by
2 to cancel 2, and 10 divide 2 is what?
2x Sir 5
10= ¿ ¿
2 2
So, final answer is
5=x
Last step,
Step 4: Find the measure of each side
Here, what we are going to do is substitute the
value of x from our given sides
Sir the value of x is 5
What is the value of our x again?
Our first given side is LO = 4x+10
Substitute the value of x
=4(5)+10
Multiply 4 and 5 Sir 20
What is (4)(5)?
=20+10 Sir 30
Add, and our answer is
=30 units
Since the measure of LO is 30 units, by
applying property 1 that opposite sides are Sir, 30 units
parallel and congruent meaning EV is equal to
what side? EV =6x
6(x)= 6(5)
Can someone compute the other side to check if =30 units
it is true?
Which is really true that opposite sides are
parallel and congruent. None, Sir
Any questions in Property 1?
Okay, good to hear that
Since there is no question let us proceed to
Challenge 2 -Part 1: Find Me
1. I will give each group an illustration board.
2. You will select a representative from each
group
3. I will ask some questions related to
Property1 of Parallelogram.
4. Write your answer on the illustration board.
5. The first group to finish will recite their yell
so as to recognized them and give the final
answer.
6. Each member of the group must participate
and cooperate.
7. The first group who will get the correct
answer will receive a one point which is
equivalent to one step forward on our race.
So, here is our problem,
Challenge 2: Part 1 1. CA=8
1. □CAKE, if the length of EK =8 how about
CA ?
2. □FOUR, if the length of FR=11 how about 2. OU =11
OU ?
3.
3. □CARE is a parallelogram, if the measure of
CE ≅ AR
CE is 3x+5 and AR is 6x-10 find the length of 3 x+ 5=6 x−10
the given sides. 3 x−6 x=−10−5
−3 x=−15
−3 x −15
=
−3 −3
x=5
Then substitute the value of x to given sides
CE=3 x +5
3(5)+5
15+5
20 units
Since CE=20 units therefore, AR=20units
Very good class (Students perform the good job clap)
Give yourself a good job clap
Now let us proceed to Property 2 Property 2: In a parallelogram, any
opposite angles are congruent
What is the property number 2 again?
Very good
As you can see in our illustration, we have
parallelogram GAME.
What are the two congruent angles from our Sir, the 2 congruent angles from
illustration? parallelogram GAME are, ∠G≅ ∠M and
∠A≅ ∠E
Very good!
Congruent angle means, they have the same
measure of angle.
Now, let us have an example.
Example 1 and 2:
If m∠G=120° then m∠M=120°
How about if m∠E=60° then what is the Sir, if m∠E=60° then m∠A= 60°
measure of ∠A?
Example 3:
Quadrilateral HOPE is a parallelogram. Find the
value of x when 𝑚∠O =(𝑥 + 15)° and 𝑚∠E
=(135 - 𝑥)° and find the measure of each angle
Same process of what we did in Property 1 we
will follow the 4 steps in answering the problem
Step 1: Draw the given figure
Since you already know how to draw a figure
anyone who can the figure from our given
problem?
Very good!
Now that we are done in illustrating the figure
Step 2: Identify the relationship of the given.
Observe our illustration what is the relationship Sir, the given angles are opposite angle, by
of our given angles apply property number 2 applying property 2 opposite angles are
congruent so therefore, ∠O ≅ ∠E
Very good!
Next step 3,
Step 3: Formulate and solve the equation
We will solve the value of x.
∠O ≅ ∠E
Anyone who can substitute the given? Sir, ∠O ≅ ∠E
𝑥 + 15= 135 – 𝑥
Next step transpose and combine like terms 𝑥 + 𝑥 = 135 - 15
2𝑥 = 120
Since we are looking for the value of x,
What we will do next? Sir, divide it both side of the equation of 2
Yes, that is correct, divide both sides of the 2 x 120
equation by 2 what is the answer? =
2 2
x= 60
Very good!
For our last step
Step 4: Find the measure of each angle
Here same in what we did property 1 we will
substitute the value of x from our given angles
to know the measure each angle
𝑚∠O =(𝑥 + 15)°
Substitute the value of x, 60
(60 + 15)°
Add, and what is the answer? Sir, 75°
Since, 𝑚∠O =75°, by applying property 2 what
is the measure of ∠E? Sir, also 75°
Can someone compute the other angle to check
if it is true? 𝑚∠E =(135 - 𝑥)°
=(135 - 60)°
Very good = 75°
Which is true that opposite angles are
congruent.
Any questions about Property 2? None sir
Now, let us proceed to Challenge 2- Part 2
Challenge 2-Part 2
1. □FIVE, if the measure of ∠I=115°, how about
the m∠E? 1. m∠E=115°
2. □IDOL, if the measure of ∠D=65°, how
about the m∠L? 2. m∠L= 65°
[Link] EXIT is a parallelogram. If 𝑚∠E
=(12𝑥 + 4)° and 𝑚∠I =(13𝑥 – 6)°, find the 3.
measure of each angle ∠E ≅ ∠I
12𝑥 + 4=13𝑥 - 6
4 + 6=13𝑥 - 12𝑥
10= 𝑥
Then substitute the value of x to given
angles
m∠E= (12𝑥 + 4)°
=(12(10)+ 4)°
=(120+ 4)°
=124°
Since ∠E and ∠I are opposite angles
meaning by applying property 2 m∠I is also
Very good class! equal to 124°
Everything is clear? Any question to our topic
today?
None sir
For that give yourself a good job clap
(Students perform the good job clap)
