Acceptance Standard Liquid Penetrant Test As per ASME Section VIII Div.1 Ed.2021
EVALUATION OF INDICATONS:

1.0 Relevant indications are those indications caused by discontinuities that are open to
the examination surface. With a colour contrast penetrant the developer forms a
reasonably uniform white coating. Surface discontinuities are indicated by bleed
out of the penetrant, which is normally a deep red colour that stains the Developer.
Indications with light pink colour may indicate excessive cleaning.
2.0 Only indications with major dimensions greater than 1/16 inch (1.5mm) shall be
considered relevant.
3.0 A linear indication is one having a length greater than three times the width.
4.0 A rounded indication is one of circular or elliptical shape with the length equal to
or less than three times the width.
5.0 Following acceptance standard shall apply for ASME Sec VIII Div 1,
All surface examined shall be free of:
1) Relevant linear indication
2) Relevant rounded indication greater than 5 mm
3) Four or more relevant rounded indication in a line separated by 1.5 mm or
less (edge to edge).
