The 2251, 2251EX and 2251EX2 system are basically the same. All three units
provide the 10 cm (4 in.) thick of surrounding low background steel. They differ in
the amount of interior space available for the subject patient and in their overall size.
The interior dimensions are as follows:
Note 1: An additional 19” (483mm) from rear, 12” (305mm) from side and
10” (254mm) from front of unit is required for loading steel plates.
The system should be mounted on a floor that is moderately flat and level with a
floor flatness value of 25 or better and a floor levelness value of 20 or better as
described in ACI 117 and ASTM E1155. If the floor does not meet these minimum
floor specifications then the floor’s levelness and flatness must be improved prior to
system installation.
Shim plates can be used to level the FASTSCAN Frame Weldment, but it is not the
recommended practice due to the small area loading at the shim locations. The local
concentrated floor load limits are not to be exceeded when using shims.
CAUTION: A minimum of two people are required to lift and install the shield
plates onto the frame.
CAUTION: Due to the size and weight of the FASTSCAN assembly, careful
hoisting is required to prevent both personnel injury and equipment
damage during installation.
1. Refer to the appropriate site layout drawing for the installation requirements.
The exact location of the FASTSCAN is to be determined by customer on
site.
CAUTION: Follow the instructions and warning given in Lifting and Moving on
page 4 before lifting or moving the FASTSCAN frame assembly.
Note: An additional 19” (483mm) from rear, 12” (305mm) from side and 10”
(254mm) from front of unit is required for loading steel plates.
Mount the Detector Tower to the front (side with opening) of the FASTSCAN
Frame. For the top two mounting holes, use two (2) 1/2-13UNC x 3/4” long socket
head cap screws with split-lock washers. For the bottom two mounting holes, use
two (2) 1/2-13UNC x 1” long hex head cap with flat and split-lock washers.
Shield plates need to be mounted on the back, left and right side, top and bottom of
the FASTSCAN frame. The sizes of the plates are different for most of these sides
and are kept on different pallets during transport. Each pallet contains the shield
plates for a particular side.
Refer to Table 4 for the dimensions of the frame weldment shield plates.
Note: The following list is based on the FASTSCAN being fabricated using 0.25”
(6.4mm) steel. If other thicknesses are used, the quantity of the plates may
change. The total shield thickness of each wall is nominally 4” (102mm).
All the pallets are numbered with the lowest numbered plate at the top of the stack.
Refer to the appropriate frame weldment and shield assembly drawing and install the
shield plates in the following sequence:
1. Bottom plates
2. Rear plates “B” and rear plates “A”, starting with rear plate “B” #1, followed
with rear plate “A” #2, etc.
3. Side plates
4. Top plates
CAUTION: A minimum of two people are required for lifting and moving of the
shield plates. The Detector Tower side shield plates are the largest
plates of all assemblies with the EX2 side plates weighing
approximately 45lbs (20kg).
Shield plates need to be mounted on the front, left and right side, top and bottom of
the Detector Tower. The sizes of the plates are different for most of these sides and
are kept on different pallets during transport. Each pallet contains the shield plates
for a particular side.
Refer to Table 5 for the dimensions of the frame weldment shield plates.
Refer to the appropriate detector weldment and shield assembly drawing and install
the shield plates in the following sequence:
1. Bottom plates
2. Front plates
3. Side plates
4. Top plates
As shipped from Mirion the detectors are packed in a box, which contains foam
insulation. Place the detectors, wrapped in their foam insulation, inside the Detector
Tower. A block of foam is placed between the two detectors. The top and bottom
detectors are orientated differently. The top detector is positioned with the detector
cables located above the detector. The bottom detector is positioned with the detector
cables located below the detector.
Dress the detector cables to the bottom of the Detector Tower and bring them
through the slotted holes at the foot of the tower.
Electronics
The electronics of the FASTSCAN can be one of the following configurations. Refer
to the appropriate system interconnect drawing.
Depending on the configuration either the (2) 2007B preamps or the Lamp Driver /
Osprey assembly will be mounted inside the base of the detector weldment.
1. The 2007B preamps will be mounted to Velcro pads provided inside the base
of the detector weldment.
2. The rear hooks of the Lamp Driver / Osprey mounting plate will hook over
the cable slots of the detector weldment. A Velcro pad is provided for
attachment of the mounting plate base.
Referring to the appropriate system interconnect drawing; connect the detector cables
to either the preamps or Lamp Driver / Osprey units.
• The largest panel hanger (quantity 1) mounts on the front bottom of the
Detector Tower.
• The small size panel hangers (quantity10) mount on the bottom of all sides
of the Frame and Detector Tower.
• The middle size panel hangers (quantity12) mount on the top of all sides of
the Frame and Detector Tower.
Panels
Hang the panels on the panel hangers of the Frame and Detector Tower in the
following sequence:
1. Rear panel
2. Side panels
Attach the Standoff Spacer Assembly to the internal rear wall of the frame weldment
using the provided three (3) ¼”-20 by 1” (25.4mm) socket head cap screws.
