Abstract:

Report of the Radio Planner 3.0 project containsin formation so planning area, assumptions
for planning process , calculations and mathematical formulations for RF planning of
choosen area, design of basestation’s positionson Cellular App and a discussion topic over
problems, solutions and changes which are not compitable with calculations but needed in
practical applications.

SOME INFORMATION ABOUT BURDUR AND PROJECT(1):

=>> Burdur has about 270000 population of people. Its area normally 7175 km2 but I will
hanle just its central area. Its central area is about 26.84 km2 and also its central population is
about 120.000 of people. I calculated the central area with using Google Earth Pro that shown
below picture-1. Burdur has small area according to its population. Buildings usually consist
5-6 floors. Building is very near to each other in Burdur ,so I tried to be careful while I was
putting the antennas truly. I generally used dense urban type of antennas because of buildings
designs. I used sub urban or urban some place that there is no buildings or fields. We have
two type of calculation this project. One of them is Coverage calculation. The other is Traffic
calculation. I calculated both of them. I processed according to which BSS number is higher.

Population: 120000
Central Area: 26.84 km2

CALCULATIONS(2):

Parameters to be used;

TRX output power 40 W;

BSS antenna gain is 16 dBi;
Diversity gain is 3 dB ;
Expected call duration at Brush hour is 120 seconds;
Operator wants to satisfy his costumers that aimed GoS in the area is 0.2% ;
Lowest signal strengt at outdoor is -70 dBm;
RF losses due to cables and connectors are 8 dB;
Wall penatration loss is 8 dB;
HBTS are 21 meters;
Assume that antennas are mounted just above the roof top of buildings via 3 meter poles.

#From Capacity Calculation(2.1):

Total traffic= (120.000*120*0.8) / 3600 = 3200 (E)

Let's assume that (444) type BSS will be implemented

For one sector, (4 * 8) - 1 = 31 slots (will be available)

Combined with Erlang table

31 slots may carry 18.4 Erlang
Each BSS will carry 18.4 * 3 = 55.2 (E)
#BSS = 3200/ 55.2 =58 BSS
#From Coverage Calculation(2.2):

S= π *d^2
#BSS = 30 / (π*d^2)

LP can be calculated by means of link budget ;

(SS) =P - Total Loss + G - Lp

desired TRX Antenna

-70 dBm = 46 dBm - 8 + 16 - Lp

Lp= 124 dB

Lp = 46.3 + 33.9log(f) - 13.82log(H ) + 12log(d)

BTS

124 dB = 46.3 + 33.9log(900) - 13.82log(21+3) + 12log(d)

d 0.52 km

#BSS = 30 / (π*d^2) = 34 BSS

There must be 58 BSS in Burdur

30 / (π * d ^ 2) = 58
new

d 0.22 km
new

Lp= 46.3 + 33.9log(900) - 13.82log(24) + 12log(0.26)

Lp= 120.35 dB
-70 dBm = P - 8 + 16 - 120.35 dB => P = 42.35 dBm = 17.2 W
TRX TRX
Calculation Results(2.3):
=>> I calculated the number of BSS with two way. Result of capacity calculation is 58 BSS
but result of coverage calculation is 34 BSS. According to this results I decided to choose
from capacity calculation because it has more number of BSS. So I calculated d and TRX
output power again. After that I established the antennas with Radio Planner 3.0(Picture-2).

Base Station Positioning for Burdur(3)

=>>I generally prefer dense urban type of antenna in city center because residential area is
very near to each other.Burdur is a small city in terms of area. You can walk one or two hours
from entrance to exit. People population is density compared to its area. So I tried to fill
everywhere with green area. I placed 58 antennas in total. Since these data are taken from
previous years. This picture-2 and picture-3 below shows the antenna placement.

Explanation About Antennas Placement(4)

Some Red Areas(4.1):

 As you can see from the picture-3, some areas remained red. Because there are no
residential areas in these areas.

Specific Regions(4.2):
 The industrial area is located outside Burdur. I was more careful when placing the
antennas in this area, because industrial areas have aluminum ceilings, which
reduces the reception quality. So I used a high density urban type antenna for this
area. Pictures 4 and 5 below show Burdur Industrial Area.
