The Legalization of Same-sex Marriage

(argumentative essay)
Sebastian, Pamplona, Mortel, Suizo

Same-sex marriage is referred to as the marriage of two persons who are the same sex or gender. According to a UCLA psychology study, many people who
are against same-sex marriage think that homosexuals are more promiscuous than heterosexuals, which they worry could endanger their way of life.
According to this study, the majority hold traditional values and are socially conservative. However, not allowing the legalization of same-sex marriage is
discriminatory and unconstitutional as we believe that allowing same-sex marriage to be legalized is a basic human right all should have. It is also a way to
promote equality for everyone, and a way to decrease discrimination and ignorance faced by LGBTQ+ people. In this essay, we will tell you why we think
same-sex marriage should be legalized.

To start with, we believe that marriage is a right all people regardless of sexual orientation or gender should be able to have. Marriage has long been
considered one of the most important personal freedoms necessary for the orderly pursuit of happiness by free men. Coontz claims that the Supreme Court
ruled in 1987 that governments shouldn't restrict people's ability to marry whomever they choose. (Langbein & Yost, 2009).

To cite Killoren, 2020, legalizing same-sex marriage would give happiness to LGBTQ couples who get the chance to marry each other, which is why it is
cruel and unfair to illegalize marriage for couples of the same sex. And because same sex legalization. enables people from LGBTQ to express their love for
one another in matrimony, all countries ought to explore legalizing same-sex marriage.

The ability to marry will also increase the security for gay people’s families and their population’s health. A healthy population enhances people’s quality of
life and lowers healthcare costs for society as a whole. Additionally, it will help their mental state and well-being and give people greater inspiration.
Marriage can also help both partners feel more at ease and safe in the relationship. This is why all who wish to be unified in marriage should be allowed to do
so. To respect the legal and human rights of all members of the lgbtq+ community, regardless of gender or romantic orientation, same-sex marriage should be
made legal. (Winter, 2017)

Secondly, allowing same-sex marriage to be legalized promotes equality for all types of people. Giving everyone the same options is what equality entails.
Legalizing same-sex marriage encourages equality as it gives same-sex couples the same rights and options as heterosexual couples. ("Why is same-sex
marriage important", Equality Network)
By allowing LGBTQ people to marry the people they love, acceptance of same-sex marriage will increase everyone's rights. From a human rights standpoint,
the extension of civil marriage to same-sex couples demonstrates respect for the fundamental freedoms of equality and non-discrimination. This will show
that they receive the same treatment and have the same civil rights as a regular heterosexual couple. (Conde, 2017).

Legalizing same-sex marriage ensures that all genders—men, women, lesbians, and other genders—are treated equally in marriage and gives same-sex
couples the confidence and courage to claim they are married despite being of the same sex.

Lastly, the legalization of same-sex marriage would reduce the discrimination LGBTQ people face and make it acceptable in everyone's eyes for people to be
attracted to others of the same sex which could end prejudice against those involved. Exposing people to more LGBTQ couples through same-sex marriage
will lessen the number of people who stay ignorant about same-sex couples and it will reduce discrimination. (Biloxy, 2017)

Researchers have already found evidence of changes in attitudes and social norms after same-sex relationships were legalized in the United States where
same-sex marriage legalization sparked a change in societal norms and decreased discrimination against LGBTQ people. (Sansone, 2018)

By enabling them to express their feelings, it will also help people avoid developing fears or becoming less sociable with those around them. It will also help
people feel more confident. And by reducing prejudice and discrimination, the introduction of same-sex marriage will enhance the safety, self-esteem, health,
and well-being of LGBT people. ("Why is same-sex marriage important", )

In conclusion, marriage is a basic right all should have. It is also a way to promote equality for everyone, and also to reduce discrimination against LGBT
people. All of us are human beings at the end of the day. Same-sex marriage is more important in today’s time as the world is progressing.
Moreover, people could finally be themselves and own their individuality. Just because someone does not love a person of the opposite sex, it does not make
them wrong. We can love anyone we want.

In addition, it is better to spend the rest of your life with someone of the same sex you love rather than the opposite sex whom you don’t even like. People will
lead happy lives with their loved ones rather than being forced to marry someone.

Same-sex marriage gives other people hope that they can also have a future. In addition, it paves a brighter path for the LGBTQ community. That is why the
government should legalize same-sex marriage, and why more people should start considering the concept of same-sex marriage.

In opposition, some people believe that marriage is for procreation and that same-sex couples should be prohibited from marriage because they cannot
produce children together. Some also state that homosexuality is immoral and unnatural, and, therefore, same-sex marriage is immoral and unnatural.
