PROBLEM STATEMENT AND

OBJECTIVE

To build an online book store website where they can access a book easily.
Design a Database System for an online book store (e.g., Amazon), based
on the following specifications.
1. Books are represented by, ISBN, Title, Author, Publisher, Edition,
Year of Publication, Price, Short Reviews if available, Table of Contents
if available., an image of the book cover, category e.g., computer
science,operating systems, MacOS
2. Customers will use an web based interface to browse books based on
categories, search books using keywords. Initially only the title and
author of the book(s) are displayed, on click other attributes are
displayed. Customers can buy books using their epurse. The store also
displays the number of copies of the book left in stock. Out of stock
books cannot be purchased immediately, but can be ordered.
3. Customers create accounts in the book store. Each account contains
customer profile information: name, age, geographical location,
categories of interest, email. Each account has an epurse. Customers can
specify the amount of money to be deposited with the epurse. Profile and
epurse information can be updated by the customer. Customers will login
to the book store using an account name and password.
4. All online sales data are recorded in the database with timestamp.
5. Owner of the bookstore can give requisition for buying of books to
publishers based on the amount of stock remaining. For each book the
owner maintains a stock which is at least the number of copies of the
book sold over last 3 months. Books ordered by some customer are
immediately requisitioned. Requisitions are placed in a requisition table.
The publishers inspect the table on the 1st of every month and
immediately supply the books. Once a book is supplied it is cleared from
the requisition table. Design tables for the above system. Create a
separate view for customers. Design suitable forms. Implement
authorizations. Store the functions and procedures necessary in the
database itself. You may also use other languages, besides SQ.
 ABSTRACT
The purpose of Online Book Store is to automate the existing manual system by the help of
computerized equipments and full-fledged computer software, fulfilling their requirements, so that
their valuable data/information can be stored for a longer period with easy accessing and
manipulation of the same. The required software and hardware are easily available and easy to work
with.

Online Book Store, as described above, can lead to error free, secure, reliable and fast
management system. It can assist the user to concentrate on their other activities rather to concentrate
on the record keeping. Thus it will help organization in better utilization of resources. The
organization can maintain computerized records without redundant entries. That means that one need
not be distracted by information that is not relevant, while being able to reach the information.

The aim is to automate its existing manual system by the help of computerized equipments
and full-fledged computer software, fulfilling their requirements, so that their valuable
data/information can be stored for a longer period with easy accessing and manipulation of the same.
Basically the project describes how to manage for good performance and better services for the
clients.

INTRODUCTION
The application is reduced as much as possible to avoid errors while entering the data. It also
provides error message while entering invalid data. No formal knowledge is needed for the user to
use this system. Thus by this all it proves it is user-friendly. Online Book Store , as described
above, can lead to error free, secure, reliable and fast management system. It can assist the user to
concentrate on their other activities rather to concentrate on the record keeping. Thus it will help
organization in better utilization of resources.

The project's main goal is to develop an online book store where users can search for and make
purchases of books based on title, author, and subject. The user's chosen books are displayed in a
tabular format, and they can order them online using a debit card or credit card. Instead of going to a
bookstore and wasting time, the user can purchase a book on this website. Many online book
retailers, such as MPHOnline and BookDepository were developed using HTML. I'd like to create a
comparable website with.NET and SQL Server.

purchase it using a debit or credit card transaction. The user can log in using his or her account
information, or new customers can swiftly create an account. They should include their full name,

as Action and Adventure, Classics, Fantasy, Fiction, Non-fiction, Horror etc. Customers can shop

BREIF LITERATURE REVIEW

Book store management is designed to deal with the customer queries regarding information about
different types of books. This is an online System that matches the customer queries regarding the
author, publishers, title, price, latest updates, storage information, upgrades etc. against the
information stored in the centralized database. Improved customer satisfaction by reducing the need
for customers to fill out forms and provide information about their book to customer service
representatives during the check-in process. The representatives can more quickly access the book
history and suggest which periodic maintenance services should be performed. They can also
determine what parts are in stock for the various publications, which helps customer service
representatives keep customers informed about their queries while respecting their time. This
improved level of service results in higher customer loyalty. The customers of today are not only
attracted because online shopping is very convenient, but also because they have broader selections,
highly competitive prices, better information about the product (including people’s reviews) and
extremely simplified navigation for searching regarding the product. Moreover, business owners
often offer online shopping options at low rates because the overhead expenses in opening and
running a physical store are higher. Further, with online shopping, their products have access to a
worldwide market, which increases the number of customers from different ethnic groups, adds
customer value, and overall sustainable in the marketing. To develop an easy to use web based
interface where users can search for products, view a complete description of the products and order
the products. A search engine that provides an easy and convenient way to search for products
specific to their needs. The search engine would list a set of products based on the search term and
the user can further filter the list based on various parameters.

METHODOLOGY
1. HTML : Hypertext Markup Language is the standard markup language for documents designed to
be displayed in a web browser. It can be assisted by technologies such as Cascading Style Sheets
(CSS) and scripting languages such as JavaScript. Web browsers receive HTML documents from a
web server or from local storage and render the documents into multimedia web pages. HTML
describes the structure of a web page semantically and originally included cues for the appearance of
the document.
2. CSS : Cascading Style Sheets is a style sheet language used for describing the presentation of a
document written in a markup language like HTML. CSS is a cornerstone technology of the World
Wide Web, alongside HTML and JavaScript.CSS is designed to enable the separation of presentation
and content, including layout, colors, and fonts. This separation can improve content accessibility,
provide more flexibility and control in the specification of presentation characteristics, enable
multiple web pages to share formatting by specifying the relevant CSS in a separate .css file, and
reduce complexity and repetition in the structural content.
3. PHP : PHP is a recursive acronym for "PHP: Hypertext Pre-processor". PHP is a server side
scripting language that is embedded in HTML. It is used to manage dynamic content, databases,
session tracking, even build entire ecommerce sites. It is integrated with a number of popular
databases, including MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, Sybase, Informix, and Microsoft SQL Server
PHP supports a large number of major protocols such as POP3, IMAP, and LDAP. PHP4 added
support for Java and distributed object architectures (COM and CORBA), making n-tier development
a possibility for the first time.

IMPLEMENTATION AND RESULTS

This application based on the internet that aims to all the levels of management providing
information of an organization. This system can be used and information management system for the
bookstore. we can see that nearly everything is very much possible to perform within a single click ,
so this application will help you to computerized the system of online bookstore management , so
that readers can access the system online and search the books that they want. A user visiting the
website can see a wide range of books arranged in respective categories . the user may select desired
book and view its price when user search specific book on the website , once he selected the book ,
the selected books will be displayed in tabular form, he then has to fill in form and book is ordered
by user. Day-byday taste, preference and choices are varying regarding different factors such as the
Internet emergence However, this development needs some more understanding related to the
consumer’s behavior. The Bookshop Management System automates all operations in a bookshop.
Generally it includes the Order Processing, Stock Management and Accounts Management before
managing a bookshop understand the concept of automation. In automation of any operation we
make a system which do work automatically as the respective events occurs, for which it is meant.
The proposed system consists of the following goals & has the scope as follows:

 The Administrator will have additional functionality when compared to the common user. He can
add, delete and update the author, publisher, book categories, book details, member information and
