Revisions
The manufacturer makes changes to the IOS-SFM to show design changes, maintenance
procedure changes or other changes. Each group of changes is called a ‘Revision’.
Temporary Revisions
Temporary revisions correct errors or they give temporary instructions. The manufacturer
sends them to the FSTD owners quickly. The manufacturer usually puts the contents of a
temporary revision in the next approved revision.
Service Instructions give the operator technical instruction about the product which is not
included in the standard documentation. This could be for example recommendations for
operating or information about SB‘s of other manufacturers (Projector Manufacturer etc.).

CHAPTER 3
The simulator is controlled via two touch screen monitors allocated in the IOS box. A
keyboard and trackball or mouse are also available.
For the initial qualification of the FSTD, validation data are used. They are presented in the
Reference Data Report document. They are derived from a Diamond specific airplane within
the represented class of airplane (SEP or MEP), or they are based on information from the
Airplane Flight Manual or Engineering reports supporting the data.
In some cases, a subjective evaluation of the pilot can be used (EASA) to support the use of
certain validation data (force sweeps in cruise, for instance).
Electrical system
The FSTD has a 5V DC, 24V DC and 230V AC electrical system. The server rack is supplied
by 230V AC and provides 5V DC, 24V DC and 230V AC to the simulator system, the
computers and the projectors.
A Simulator Start Switch and a Main (Emergency) Switch are available. The Simulator Start
switch is located on the front side of the server rack and is used to provide the simulator with
electrical power. The red Main Switch is located on the right side of the server rack and is
used to cut the power to the server rack for long term storage and for emergency reasons.
Refer to chapters 3.5, 3.6, 17 for the description of the Simulator Start and Shutdown.
Computer System
The server rack is equipped with computers in different configurations.
• HOST Computer
The HOST computer provides the simulation software and the IOS Interface for the
Instructors
• Three Visual computers
Each Visual computer provides one channel for the visual simulation and supplies the
appropriate projector. VIS1 provides the Center Cannel. VIS2 provides the right-hand
projector with the left-hand picture on the visual screen. VIS3 provides the left-hand
projector with the right-hand picture on the visual screen.
The computers are automatically supplied with electrical power after the Start Switch is
turned on. A full-automatic shutdown sequence is triggered by the IOS software by pressing
the EXIT button followed by pressing the SHUTDOWN button.
For more information about the Simulator Startup and Shutdown refer to chapters 3.5, 3.6,
17 and to the Simulator Maintenance Manual.
Access to the computers is possible via the KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) Control Unit. To
activate the KVM press the KVM control button, select the appropriate computer and press
enter. The KVM control button depends on the customer configuration.
The Control Loading System (CLS) is used to provide pilots with realistic flight control forces
in the flight simulator. The CLS takes inputs from pilot / copilot via the control stick and
rudder pedals and provide computed outputs for the pilot / copilot and the simulator.
Three red colored CLS emergency buttons (EPO) are in place to protect pilot and co-pilot
from injuries and system damages in case of a CLS defect. Two emergency buttons are
located in the floor room of the pilot and copilot. The third CLS emergency button is located
on the Flight Instructor Workstation (FIWS) between the monitors. To shut down the control
loading system motors, press at least one of the emergency buttons. To (re-)activate the
