Lebico, Camille Sci-3a Lab 3 Hay Infusion
Lebico, Camille Sci-3a Lab 3 Hay Infusion
OBJECTIVES:
To identify the different parts of the animal cell
To distinguish different types of cell
MATERIALS:
Hay infusion, prepared slide, medicine dropper, glass slide and slip
PROCEDURE:
1. Get a small amount of water from the hay infusion
2. Place a drop onto the glass slide.
3. Examine under scanner, LPO and HPO. Observe.
4. Draw the different organisms seen under different objectives
QUESTIONS:
1. What type of cell is exhibited by the organisms from the hay infusion? From the
prepared slides?
2. Why do cells have different shapes and appearances?
VORTICELLA
ANSWERS TO QUESTIONS:
1. Organisms that can be found in a hay infusion belongs to Kingdom Protista, Kingdom Animalia, and
Kingdom Plantae. These microorganisms are identified as eukaryotic cells. From the prepared slides, using
a microscope, we actually saw some flagellates, green algae, and ciliates organisms. Unfornately, we didn’t
saw amoeboids from our sample.
2. Cells have different shapes and appearances because they perform diverse and own unique roles of
functions. The shape and appearance varies due to accumulation and synthesizing of set of proteins. The
main factors that determine the shape of the cells are cytoskeletal proteins, cell membrane in animal cells,
and cell wall in plant cells.
