Encounters: Learning Outcomes Discussion Form

Student Name: Chenchen Ling Tutor Name: Céline Strolz

Learning Outcome 1: Demonstrate an understanding of the functional and critical perspectives that
inform your research by showing how it critically relates to wider social / cultural or environmental
debates;

Evidence (write 200 words on how your research-practice meets LO 1, below):

In recent weeks, my research has focused on the theme of time perception, beginning with the study of
how a single sense perceives time and the external world, and discussing the asynchrony and
complexity of global time in an effort to narrow the gap between the individual and the external world.
Subsequently, I explored how people waver between real time and digital time in the digital age, and
how these two dimensions of time affect our perception of time. I attempted to explore the concept of
"eternity" in the infinite replication of digital time, which not only triggered deep thinking about the
passage of time and the concept of eternity but also involved the coexistence of real and digital time
and how they shape our understanding of personal experience and the real world.

Actions (write on your next steps that are specific, achievable, time-bound):
1. Continue advancing research on the perception of time.
2. Try more media to express eternity.
3. Explore other ways of expression.

Learning Outcome 2: Articulate and critically evaluate the research knowledge and methods gained in
this unit to identify key themes and methodologies that will drive your research forward;

Evidence (write 200 words on how your research-practice meets LO 2, below):

During the research process of this unit, I primarily sought problems through personal experiences and
then explored common social issues. I reviewed relevant theories and literature to determine the
direction of my research and explored viable practical approaches based on this. This process made me
acutely aware of the importance of themes closely related to personal or social issues for the depth and
impact of artistic works. I had ventured into a misdirected area where I relied solely on literature
research and keyword analysis in the absence of an in-depth exploration of social issues, limiting some
aspects of my research. This experience taught me that artistic research requires not only theoretical
support but also a connection with real-world issues and emotional resonance, making the research
more meaningful and impactful.

Actions (write your next steps that are specific, achievable, time-bound):
1. Find more related social issues.
2. Improve research methods and discuss them with the group.
3. Refine and clarify the research theme.
Learning Outcome 3: Engage in and contribute to the support and enabling of others in discussions
with your peers and staff, showing an awareness of models of participation and/or collaboration.

Evidence (write 200 words on how your research-practice meets LO 3, below):

During the Encounter course, I learned the importance of collaboration and communication. Interacting
with people from diverse backgrounds led to more profound insights in practice. This process of
mutual affirmation and critique helped me evolve my methods. In discussions with classmates, I shared
my themes and insights as much as possible. Through the group work at the beginning of the course, I
actively engaged and explored research methods with my teammates, leading to a successful
collaboration. Our interactions deepened my understanding of the themes and helped my classmates
develop their views. These exchanges taught me how to communicate and collaborate effectively in a
team and how to develop and explore ideas through communication.

Actions (write your next steps that are specific, achievable, time-bound):
1. Discuss with the Open Studio group to refine the plan.
2. Discuss the exhibition format for Open Studio.
3. Collaborate with peers on integrating feedback to enhance project execution.
