1. Description:

The 8560F and 8570F

assemblies are manifolds fitted
with 7534 semi-internal pressure
relief valves. This arrangement
combines the advantages of both
the manifold and the internal
relief valve. The manifold allows
the removal, resetting and
replacement of the pressure relief
valves without the need for
discharging the contents of the
tank. The semi-internal 7534
relief valves have the advantage
of having the spring situated
inside the tank thus ensuring a
good service life (through the
absence of corrosion or
contamination).

2. Manifold base assembly:

The manifold is the base on which the relief valves are installed. The manifold is equipped
with a single internal shut-off disc which allows only one relief valve port to be closed at a
time. A handwheel enables the disc to be positioned under the relief valve before
isolation. A small bleeder valve allows the depressurisation of the space between the
closure disc and the relief valve. The manifold is intended to be installed on the uppermost
surface of a storage tank .

The gas passage in the manifold is large and unobstructed. It ensures a minimum pressure
loss. It is intended to be connected directly on to a tank opening, in order to avoid any
restrictions.

The closure ports are equipped with PTFE seals ensuring a good seal with the internal
shut-off disc.

There are two types of manifold available:

8570F series with a 4” ASA 300 lb flange

8560F series with a 3” ASA 300 lb flange.

A feature of the 3” model lies in the fact that the connection flange is 3” but has an
internal bore of a 4” model.

The manifolds are provided with 4 threaded ports of 2 ½” F.NPT allowing the fitting of 2,
3 or 4 relief valves in order to provide the required capacity. The unused ports are
blanked off with a steel plug.

The number of relief valves installed are indicated by the last figure of the part number of
the manifold.

For example:
8562F = 2 x 7534 relief valves on a 3” ASA 300 lb manifold.
8653F = 3 x 7534 relief valves on a 3” ASA 300 lb manifold
8574F = 4 x 7534 relief valves on a 4” ASA 300 lb manifold

As the internal passageway is the same on both 8560F and 8570 models the flow capacity
of the relief valves installed is also essentially the same.

3. 7534 Pressure relief Valves:

These are relief valves which are intended for the protection of large LPG storage tanks. They
ensure a rapid opening and large capacity. They are equipped with a stop to limit the lift of the
poppet when in the fully open position and so as not to damage the spring.

The upstream connection is 2” M. NPT

The outlet is threaded 3” M NPT.

An optional adaptor (reference: 7534-20) makes provision for fitting vent pipes. This adaptor
is includes a weakness groove to protect the relief valve in case the vent tube is physically
damaged. The connection is 3” F.NPT.

The relief valves are mounted on the manifold base by means of special tubes. These tubes are
3” diameter in order to limit pressure loss. (See sectional view 1).
Each relief valve is marked:
Model number: 7534
The RegO manufacturing date code:
1st 1 or 2 digits 1 to 12 for the 12 months of the year
2nd a letter A to E for the weeks of the month
3rd 2 digits the last two figures of the year
Example: 5B03; Manufacture during the second week of May 2003
Set pressure: 20,00 bar (for example)
The date of setting (in the same form as the date code) is added if the setting
has been carried out on a later date than that of manufacture.

* The flow of one multiport equipped with "n" safety relief valves is given for"n-1" safety valves.
* The flows are given in air at standard conditions.

Important note concerning admissible overpressure:

Normal overpressure (other than fire engulfment situation) for the protection of pressure
vessel is limited to 110% of the maximum admissible pressure. However the relief valves
intended to protect LPG tanks must also be calculated to limit damage in the case of external
fire engulfment. In this case, local legislation permits an overpressure 120% of maximum
admissible pressure. The flow capacity marked on the valve corresponds to the admissible
overpressure which will be clearly agreed between “Kroch Equipment” and the customer in
the quotation and / or order.

6. Instructions:

6.1. Preliminary and warning:

The installation and maintenance must be carried out by qualified personnel.

These instructions must be read and fully understood before any operation is commenced.
This instruction notice must be given to the final user.

Warning: Liquefied Petroleum Gases such as Butane and Propane may cause serious injury if
touched or inhaled. This gas is flammable and explosive. This equipment is intended to be
installed and used out of doors. The venting of gas must be made in a place well ventilated
with air in order that the gas is diluted sufficiently and distant from a source of ignition or
naked flame.
It must be taken into account that LPG vapour is heavier than air and therefore has the
tendency of accumulating towards the lowest place when there is insufficient moving air.
There is a risk of suffocation through a lack of oxygen when the concentration of gas in the air
is high.

6.2. Installation and introduction into service :

The manifolds are intended to be installed on the upper outer surface of a tank.
It can be connected either :
- On the surface of a manway, previously machined by qualified personnel.
- On a flanged nozzle ASA 300 lb 3” (for 8560F series) or ASA 300 lb 4” (for the 8570F
series).

8560F series manifold:

These manifolds are suitable for a connection flange to the standard ASA 300 lb 3”.

Note: The 8560F manifold, although fitted with a 3”connection flange, is provided with an
inside gas passage equal to that of a of 4” diameter (inside diameter = 100mm).
It is therefore necessary to ensure prior to mounting, that the diameter of the internal
passageway in the tank is also 100 mm.

8570F series manifold:

These manifolds are supplied with a raised face flange conforming to the standard ASA 300 lb
4” diameter.

The manifold must be mounted in a position which allows the convenient use of the operating
handwheel (see Detail 1 in Figure 2).

A gasket is provided for the assembly.

This gasket is of a spirometallic type with external centralising ring.
In case of a need for replacement the number for ordering the gasket is:
For the 8560F series 3”: 7564-48
For the 8570F series 4”: 7565-48

The mounting is by means of 8 threaded studs with matching steel nuts of 20 mm diameter
(not provided).
Material for threaded studs: ASTM A193 B7 or of an equivalent quality
Material for Nuts: ASTM A194 2H or of an equivalent quality

The tightening of the studs must be carried out gradually and in an alternate manner in the
sequence show in the figure below:

Figure No 1
Sequence for tightening

If vent tubes are be installed on the outlet of the relief valves, RegO adaptors (7534-20) must
be used.
It is necessary to strictly limit the length of these tubes.
They must not be less than 3” diameter.
It is recommended to fix the tubes together near to their tops to avoid them oscillating in a
strong wind.
Adaptors at 90 degrees or with a reduced internal passage will considerably lessen the flow
capacity.
The capacity of the entire assembly must always be sufficient to ensure the protection of the
tank in accordance with the regulations in force.

In order to ensure the cleanliness of the body and avoid the collection of water or foreign
matter, each relief valve must protected by a cap. This cap must be detachable in case the
relief valve opens (i.e. not a threaded cap).

The caps are provided in a set.

When the discharge tubes are installed, these must also be provided with caps for the same
purpose.

In normal service, all of the bleeder valves situated under each relief valve (Detail 2 in Figure
2) must be in the “fully open” position, that is to say with the valve knob (see Detail A in
Figure 3) unscrewed in the back seated position.

Bleeder valve in Bleeder valve

backseatted position in closed position
for normal operation for relief valve removal

After mounting, the system must be tested in order to ensure that the assembly is leaktight. In
particular checking the flanged connection with non-corrosive leak detection solution.
If bubbles appear, retighten the studs. If the problem persists, disassembly will be necessary to
examine the state of the surface of the flange and that of the gasket. Before disassembly,
depressurise and neutralise the system!

There is an arrow situated just below the handwheel. During normal service, it is
recommended that the handwheel is rotated such that the arrow points between two of the four
figures legible on the handwheel. In this position, the internal shut-off disc does not obscure
any relief valve so the manifold ensures the maximum protection with all the relief valves
operational.

6.3. Use:
The benefit of relief valves mounted on a manifold allows their removal for checking, setting
or replacement without the necessity of emptying and depressurising of the tank.

6.3.1. Preliminary

The operator must be equipped with eye protection and gloves. Looking directly into the
interior of the relief valves when they are in service must be absolutely avoided, there being
the risk of them opening and discharging gas.

6.3.2. Procedure for the removal of a relief valve

1. The port of each relief valve is numbered clockwise from the left of the positioning
handwheel (see Figure 2).
Note that the number corresponding to the port is that of the relief valve to be removed.

2. Turn the positioning handwheel (detail 1 of figure 2) such that the number that corresponds
with the relative port is opposite the arrow situated on the body of the manifold below the
handwheel. In this way the internal shut-off disc becomes positioned under this port.

3. Fully turn the knob of the bleeder valve situated on the body below the same port (fully
closed position shown in Figure 3). In doing so you will commence to evacuate the space
situated between the internal shut -off disc and the relief valve to be removed. After several
seconds, the escape of gas will reduce and then stop.

This operation at the same time confirms that the shut-off disc is positioned under the correct
relief valve. If this is not so, the venting of the gas will not cease.
If the venting continues, this can mean that the shut-off disc is not positioned under the port
perfectly. In which case, slightly turn the handwheel on either side of the actual position in
order to move the shut-off disc slightly to take up the best leaktight position.

If you note that the venting of gas does not stop, nor reduce noticeably, It is strongly
recommended, as a precaution, to stop progress of work and not proceed with further removal
of the relief valve!
In this case, stop the venting of gas by putting the bleeder valve in the “complete open”
position and contact technical service.

4. When the venting of gas stops, this signifies that the relief valve is ready to be removed.
From this time do not attempt to move the shut-off disc by turning the positioning handwheel.

In order to assist the removal of a relief valve it is recommended to remove the small deflector
and its gasket. It is fixed with two screws on the flats of the hexagon on the relief valve body.

The relief valve can then be unscrewed by using a suitable wrench applied to the hexagonal
part of the relief valve.

If the removal of the manifold tube is not necessary, this can be held in position by the use of
another wrench (pipe wrench) during the removal of the relief valve.

5. If the replacement with another relief valve is not immediately possible the port left open it
must be protected. If the tube is removed you can use the rubber plug which is provided and
attached to the body of the manifold. If the tube is left in position, a plug 2” M NPT can be
used or other effective means. In the case of a threaded plug, engage no more than 1 or 2
threads and do not attempt to make a leaktight connection.

6.3.3 Procedure for the replacement of a relief valve

1. If present, remove the plug or the protection left in the port.

2. Check that there is no presence of foreign material.
3. Check that the set pressure of the new 7534 relief valve is the same as the other relief
valves still in service. This set pressure is also shown on the manifold identification plate.
Note: Any error may cause a serious incident such as the unexpected opening of the relief
valve or a dangerous overpressure of the tank.
4. Remove the horizontal deflector and gasket of the new relief valve.
5. Hand tighten by screwing in the relief valve without pipelute the engagement must be
between 4 to 6 turns.
6. Unscrew the relief valve and apply pipelute to the threads of the relief valve (pipelute must
be compatible with the product: PTFE tape for example).
7. Screw in the relief valve with a wrench. Apply a torque of 350 Nm maximum ensuring that
the final position of the relief valve allows for the replacement of the deflector.
8. Replace the deflector with its gasket, the small hole being positioned on the underside.
9. Put the bleeder valve relevant to the relief valve into the “completely open” position that is
to say completely unscrewing the bleeder valve knob. (see Figure 3).
During this operation gas will escape from the bleeder valve orifice. This is normal. When the
bleeder valve is completely unscrewed until in the backseated position, the escape of gas will
stop and pressure is re-established under the relief valve.
10. In order that to benefit from all the relief valves installed, it is recommended that the
internal shut-off disc is placed between two ports. This is achieved by positioning the
handwheel such that the arrow situated under the handwheel points exactly between the
numbers.
11. Ensure that the connection of the new relief valve installed is leaktight with leak detection
fluid. In case of any problem, repeat the removal / replacement procedure until leaktightness is
obtained.
