I. Definition
Analytical itself is an analytical way of doing something
that involves the use of logical reasoning.

Meanwhile, exposition is writing or speech whose main


aim is to convey information or to explain.

So, analytical exposition text is an English text whose


content is a logical argument from the author regarding
a problem that needs attention.
II. Social function
The social function of this type of text is to
influence the reader that something deserves
attention.

Usually the things discussed are phenomena or


problems that are closely related to everyday life.
III. Generic structure
This is the generic structure of analytical exposition text

- The thesis is the initial part of an analytical exposition text. This thesis can
be said to be the background to why the opinion was written. This section
usually contains the main topics that we will discuss, the reasons why we
give an opinion on an issue.

- Arguments are opinions to support the main topic that has been presented
previously. Usually in analytical exposition there are more than two
arguments. The more arguments presented, the more readers will believe
that the topic discussed is an important topic or requires attention.

- The conclusion is located at the end of the analytical exposition text and is
also the closing paragraph. The conclusion contains conclusions regarding
the essence of the ideas conveyed by the author.
IV. Language features
The language features of analytical exposition text:

• Use simple present tense.

• Use conjunctions or linking words to connect ideas. These connecting words


can be written in the form of phrases, clauses, sentences, or paragraphs. To
add ideas or opinions, you can use: besides, furthermore, in addition, etc. To
compare several ideas, you can use: while, otherwise, whereas, but, otherwise,
etc.
For cause and effect, you can use: because, because, although, as a result, etc.

• Using words of an opinion nature (look, feel, think, know, realize, etc.).
V. Example of the text
Title Vegetarian
Thesis There are many reasons why people become vegetarian, including personal health, the
environment and the economy. Vegetarians are people who do not consume meat,
poultry and fish. Vegetarians eat mostly fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, grains, and nuts.
Vegetarians also consume eggs and dairy products, but avoid meat products, such as
beef, chicken stock and gelatin.

Argument 1 According to research, vegetarians have a lower risk of heart disease, high cholesterol,
diabetes, obesity and high blood pressure. This may happen because of a healthy
vegetarian diet, which is low in fat but high in fiber.

Argument 2 However, a vegetarian diet can be high in fat if it includes excessive amounts of fatty
snacks, fried foods, whole dairy products and eggs.

Conclusion At the same time, a vegetarian diet can be simple and easy to prepare. Therefore, a
vegetarian diet must be planned properly to prevent and treat certain diseases.
V. Example of the text
Title Career
Thesis A career is an individual’s journey through learning, work, and other aspects of life. There
are a number of ways to define a career and the term is used in a variety of ways.
Everybody who has a career exactly wants to advance their career.
Argument 1 If you want to advance your career, you will have to make some careful decisions about
which jobs you take. Consider a job offered for the value it has to your career. It may mean
sacrifices at first.
Argument 2 You may have to move to a different region or country to get a job that is right for you. You
may have to work late hours, at least temporarily. You might even have to take a lower
salary for a job that offers you the experience that you need. But you should never accept a
job if it is not related to your career goals.
Argument 3 Accepting a job that is not within your career path will not give you the skill or experience
you need or want. You will find yourself frustrated in such a position and consequently will
not perform your best.
Conclusion This will have an effect on the people around you, who will not feel as if you are being part
of the team. The best advice is to think carefully before accepting any position and make
sure that the job is one you have.
