1. Find the HCF and the LCM of 12, 21, 15.
Ans : [Board 2020 Delhi Standard]

We have 12 = 2 # 2 # 3
21 = 3 # 7
15 = 3 # 5
HCF(12, 21, 15) = 3
LCM (12, 21, 15) = 2 # 2 # 3 # 5 # 7 = 420
2. The graph of a polynomial is shown in Figure. What
is the number of its zeroes? The pair of both equations are parallel to x -axis and
we know that parallel lines never intersects. So, there
is no solution of these lines.
4. What are the real roots of the equation
x2/3 + x1/3 − 2 = 0 ?
 Ans :

We have x2/3 + x1/3 − 2 = 0

Substituting x1/3 = y we obtain,
y2 + y − 2 = 0
^y − 1h ^y + 2h = 0 & y = 1 or y =− 2
 Ans : [Board 2020 Delhi Basic] Thus x1/3 = 1 & x = ^1 h3 = 1
Since, the graph cuts the x -axis at 3 points, the or x1/3 =− 2 & x = ^− 2h3 =− 8
number of zeroes of polynomial p (x) is 3. Hence, the real roots of the given equations are 1, - 8 .
3. The pair of equations y = 0 and y =− 7 has no 5. The n th term of an AP is (7 - 4n), then what is its
solution. Justify. common difference?
Ans : Ans : [Board 2020 Delhi Basic]
The given pair of equations are We have an = 7 − 4n
y = 0 y =− 7 Putting n = 1, a1 = 7 − 4 = 3
Putting n = 2 , a2 = 7 − 8 =− 1
Common difference d = a2 − a1 =− 1 − 3 =− 4

In an AP, if the common difference d =− 4 , and the then the value of A is ......... . 3
seventh term a7 is 4, then find the first term. Ans : [Board 2020 Delhi Basic]
Ans : [Board 2018]

We have d =− 4 We have tan (A + B) = 3

and a7 = 4 = tan 60c

Now an = a + (n − 1) d Hence, A + B = 60c ...(1)
a7 = a + (7 − 1) d
Again, tan (A - B) = 1
4 = a + (7 − 1) (− 4) 3
4 = a − 24 & a = 4 + 24 = 28 = tan 30c

First term of the AP is 28. A - B = 30c ...(2)
6. TABC is isosceles with AC = BC . If AB = 2AC , 2 2 Adding equation (1) and (2) we get
then find the measure of +C . 2A = 90c & A = 45c
 Ans : [Board 2020 Delhi Basic] 9. The .......... is the line drawn from the eye of an observer
2 2 to the point in the object viewed by the observer.
We have AB = 2AC
 Ans :
AB2 = AC2 + AC2

AB2 = BC2 + AC2 ( BC = AC )
It satisfies the Pythagoras theorem. Thus according 10. In figure, TABC is circumscribing a circle,

angle triangle and +C = 90c.

7. Find the point on the x -axis which is equidistant

from the points A (- 2, 3) and B (5, 4) ?
Ans :
 Ans : [Board 2020 Delhi Standard]
Let P (x, 0) be a point on x -axis such that,
Since AP and AR are tangents to the circle from
AP = BP
external point A, we have
AP 2 = BP 2
AP = AR = 4 cm
(x + 2) 2 + (0 − 3) 2 = (x − 5) 2 + (0 + 4) 2 Similarly, PB and BQ are tangents.
x2 + 4x + 4 + 9 = x2 − 10x + 25 + 16 Therefore BP = BQ = 3 cm
14x = 28 Now, CR = AC − AR
x =2 = 11 − 4 = 7 cm
Hence required point is (2, 0). Similarly, CR and CQ are tangents.
 o Therefore CR = CQ = 7 cm
If three points (0, 0), (3, 3 ) and (3, λ) form an Now, BC = BQ + CQ = 3 + 7 = 10 cm
equilateral triangle, then what is the value of λ ? Hence, the length of BC is 10 cm.
 Ans :  o
Let the given points are A (0, 0), B (3, 3 ) If the angle between two radii of a circle is 130c, then
and C (3, λ) . what is the angle between the tangents at the end
Since, TABC is an equilateral triangle, points of radii at their point of intersection ?
therefore  Ans : [Board Term-2 2012]
AB = AC
Sum of the angles between radii and between
(3 − 0) 2 + ( 3 − 0) 2 = (3 − 0) 2 + (λ − 0) 2 intersection point of tangent is always 180c.
9 + 3 = 9 + λ2 Thus angle at the point of intersection of
tangents
λ2 = 3 & λ = ! 3
= 180c − 130c = 50c
