the “Supply” “Demand” gap.

PROCESS OF TISSUE CULTURE:
The regeneration and somatic embryo formation
processes of the inflorescence tissue of date palm: (a)
plant material, (b) complete inflorescence (30-40 cm),
(c) inflorescence explants (1 cm), (d) explants in
medium, (e) callus formation, (f) callus proliferation, (g)
white callus, (h) somatic embryo proliferation, (i) plantlet
regeneration, (j) plantlet elongation, (k) medium used for
establishment of proper rooting system
 SUCCESS STORY

• Shri Nishant Kumar, s/o Shri Kanaram Choudhary lives in village Rajmathai,
Panchayat Samiti Sankada, Jaisalmer and has 17 Acres of Agriculture land in
Khasra No. 1164. For the last 25 years he grew traditional crops like Guar, Bajra,
Sarson and Cumin. For irrigating the fields through sprinklers, an electric
connection has also been provided on the farm to grow crops but the farmer
has not been able to reap higher dividends. In year 2009, the department of
Horticulture implemented scheme for Date Palm plantation. In this
scheme, the farmers have been provided the date palm plants through
tissue culture technique. He grown barahi variety of date palm in 2.24 Acres,
khuneizi variety in 12.35 Acres. and Medjool variety in 1.12 Acres.
• After 4 years, the process of fruit bearing started and
each tree produced 80 kg of fruit. In the succeeding year
each tree bore 80 kg fruit of date palm thus the farmer
was able to gain a return of Rs. 6.40 lakh in each
Acre with this proven tissue culture technique, each
tree of khuneizi, Barahi and Medjool varieties
produced 100, 150 and 200 kg of good quality date palm
respectively in the year 2016. The farmer sold barahi and
khuneizi variety of date palm (Fresh) at Rs.100/- per kg.
