A Peek at our Month
Reading
This month we will continue to work on making inferences in
our reading. We will focus on learning about our main
character by making some inferences and understanding
character change. We will continue learning new strategies
for working in groups, including “group brainstorming.”
Books we will read together:
-Amelia’s Road
-Peppe the Lamplighter
-Malala Yousafzai: Warrior with Words
-Sixteen Years in Sixteen Seconds
Math
In math we will work on fluently solving multi-digit addition
and subtractions problems using a variety of strategies,
including the U.S. standard algorithms. We also practice
reading, writing and comparing numbers up to 1,000,000
and rounding them to any place.
Science
In science students will continue to gather information to
help them answer the question “How do rocks and fossils tell
us about the way Earth changes over time?” Students will
learn how fossils are formed and will do several
investigations to gain a deeper understanding.
Writing
This month we will read and explore books about various
countries in our Expository Nonfiction writing unit. We will
prepare notecards to research a country with a partner. The
students will be learning how to research and organize
information.
Special’s Spotlight with
ART - Mrs. Black
Fourth grade artists have started a new lesson inspired by the artist
Jen Aranyi and her landscapes. We reviewed the 5 ways that artists
can create the illusion of distance or depth and will incorporate
these "tricks" into our work. We will represent foreground, middle
ground and background in our own landscapes and add beautiful
watercolor skies. We can't wait for you to see these magical little
gems when they are finished!
