Fourth Grade News

A Peek at our Month
Upcoming Dates Reading
This month we will continue to work on making inferences in
February 2 - PTA Quiz Bowl our reading. We will focus on learning about our main
character by making some inferences and understanding
February 5 - No School character change. We will continue learning new strategies
(Conferences) for working in groups, including “group brainstorming.”

February 8 - Conferences After School Books we will read together:


-Amelia’s Road
February 13 - PTA Meeting 6:00-7:00 -Peppe the Lamplighter
-Malala Yousafzai: Warrior with Words
February 14 - Valentine’s Day Party -Sixteen Years in Sixteen Seconds

February 19-20 - No School Math


(President’s Day Break)
In math we will work on fluently solving multi-digit addition
and subtractions problems using a variety of strategies,
Reminders including the U.S. standard algorithms. We also practice
-Dress for the weather reading, writing and comparing numbers up to 1,000,000
and rounding them to any place.

In science students will continue to gather information to
help them answer the question “How do rocks and fossils tell
us about the way Earth changes over time?” Students will
learn how fossils are formed and will do several
investigations to gain a deeper understanding.

Spelling Writing
This month we will read and explore books about various
countries in our Expository Nonfiction writing unit. We will

Week 17 Spelling Test - February 9 students will be learning how to research and organize
Week 18 Spelling Test - February 16 information.

UNTIL IT’S DONE!” Fourth grade artists have started a new lesson inspired by the artist
Jen Aranyi and her landscapes. We reviewed the 5 ways that artists
-Nelson Mandela can create the illusion of distance or depth and will incorporate
these "tricks" into our work. We will represent foreground, middle
ground and background in our own landscapes and add beautiful
watercolor skies. We can't wait for you to see these magical little
gems when they are finished!
