A Peek at our Month
Reading
Students will complete our last MAP reading test for this
year! In May we will do a book study of The Lightning
Thief, analyzing the plot and story elements as we read.
Math
We will wrap up Unit 7 by reviewing, multiplying and
dividing using bigger numbers and utilizing different
strategies to derive our answers. Our last unit is Penny
Jars and Towers- Analyzing Patterns and Rules. We will
explore towers and the number of windows and
skylights on each floor. Students will use an expression
and a letter in our expression. Students will complete
our last MAP math test for this year!
Writing
This month we will continue our Functional Writing Unit.
We will practice playing a card game in groups. Students
will then write directions for playing a game. Next, we
will work on our poetry unit. Students will use different
writing strategies such as similes, rhyme, onomatopoeia,
and sensory details.
Social Studies
This month the students will work on an alphabet S.D.
slideshow project. We will review SD topics that they
learned about this year. For example, students may use
the American Pasque flower, the Black Hills, and the
Corn Palace for the first three letters of the alphabet
with descriptions and pictures.
