Here's what we're learning this week:


Reading: Students will compare and contrast fiction and nonfiction books as table groups and
discuss. Students will also look at how authors use time words to show time moving

forward in a story. We will also read the classic, The Giving Tree and compare it to
Arbor Day Square.
Phonics: We will take this week to clarify any of the phonics topics we have learned
throughout this year. Students will be practicing their dictation words and sentences to
build mastery of certain phonics topics.
Writing: PLEASE reply to your student if you have received a letter. The kids have been
working hard thinking on convincing reasons, on top of learning how to properly format a
letter. Please reward their hard work by taking a moment to reply with a letter of
response.
Math: Students will continue to learn about and practice with comparison bars. This can be
a tricky concept for kids, but many of the kids did great with it last week.
Social Studies/Science: Students did an awesome job designing, creating, and testing their
weather tool! It was so cool to see their little minds work together to build something
with a purpose! Next, we will work on describing cloud coverage.
Other news:
Wax Museum: On Tuesday afternoon, students will walk around and hear about
different historical figures. Be sure to ask them who their favorite one was
Coin Competition: Students are invited to bring in money and drop pennies or dollars
into their class' container, or to put silver coins into other grade level
containers. Pennies and dollars count toward positive amounts and silver coins count
as negative amounts. Students will be able to put their money in during their lunch
time or during last recess time.
Reading Marathon: Students have been working on building their reading stamina!
They are working in preparation for our reading marathon that will happen the day
before spring break (Thursday, March 30!) Please continue to encourage your student
to read, read, read!
