(OLT1)ONLINE TASK #1:

MY OPINION

1.What is the role of chemistry in society and technology?

The role of chemistry in technology and society is chemistry is one of
interdependence, better saying of a great dependence on society and
technology in relation to chemical knowledge. Without the study of chemistry,
today we would not have many of the technologies that we have today.

2.How does chemistry contribute to other fields such as medicine and materials
engineering?
Chemistry is a branch of physical science that deals with the study of matter -
its structure, components, behavior, reactions and more. It studies about elements
and compounds; substances and mixtures. Therefore, there is a lot that chemistry
contribute to other fields such as medicine and materials engineering.
In medicine, chemistry helps in the discovery of cure for diseases. The mixtures and
testing of substances allow chemists to find different remedies. Biochemistry for
example, deals with the study of the chemistry in living things – like lipids,
carbohydrates, nucleic acids, and proteins. These are basics that give us idea about
the benefits of what we eat in our body and the nutrients that we might lack. Hence,
multivitamins were invented.

On the other hand, material engineering or metallurgical engineering is the study of

the properties of materials needed to develop or engineer anything around us.
Chemistry is so much helpful in this field because of the involvement of elements
and their behavior. A metallurgical engineer must know the right materials to use
[based on their properties] to make a house near the beach with a very hot climate
in order for the ones living inside to feel cool and secure. Nowadays, this branch of
engineering is starting to bloom.
3.Why are chemists important?
Chemists are extremely important scientists because they help create the
medications, chemicals, and technologies that are needed for scientific advancement
and everyday life.
