ABSTRACT
Construction of wooded shoe rack is a project which involves making of shoe rack using timber.
A shoe rack is a furniture which is often found by the door mat in the entryway of the house.
The first modern shoe rack hanger was filed by the Japanese Tsuneji Matsubara and consisted of
base with an element for placing a pair of shoe adjacent to each other. The main objectives of
having these structure in our houses is to prevent and reduce lose of shoes, help you organise
your shoes based on styles, help to prevent and scuffing of shoe and also help to create space in
the house.

A shoe rack is a completely smooth furniture having timber board stand that support smooth
racks which are used to hold shoes. It has several shelves that support shoes of different types.
Shoe rack can be made from various materials ; wood, steel and plastics. Shoe rack made of
timber is more effective because timber is readly available and easy to work on. Shoe rack is
made up of planned timber board support base boards and racks shelves. The following tools
and materials are required when designing a shoe rack ; hand saw, craw hammer, wood mallet,
sash clamp, jack plane, nails, paints, timber, glass paper and castors.

Due to the nature of material used to the rack will serve the entire family therefore reducing the
damage of shoes and also minimizing the space used for storage of shoes.
1.0 CHAPTER 1

1.1 The background of shoe rack.

A shoe rack is a furniture which is often found by the door mat in the entryway of the houses and
serves a function to keep shoe organized.

The first modern shoe hanger was filed by the Japanese Tsuneji Matsubara in 1970 and consisted
of a base with an element for placing a pair of shoe adjacent to each other.

1.2 Aims and Objectives

 Shoe rack prevent and reduce losses of shoes.
 Shoe rack can help you organize your shoes based on styles.
 Shoe rack prevent dust and scuffing of shoes.

1.3 Block Diagram

1.4 Specification
Intended target specification for the shoe rack design description : height 40 inches, length 3 fts,
width 8 inches and weight 6.5 kg and 8 inches shelf spacing.
2.0 CHAPTER TWO

2.1 Literature Review

 A shoe rack is a completely smooth furniture having timber board stand that support
smooth racks which are used to hold shoes.
 They are simple design that have plan facing on one side.
 It has several shelves that support shoes of different types.

2.2: Advantages of timber

It is cost effective
It is naturally anti-corrosive
It is versatile and visually appealing
2.3: Disadvantages of timber
It is subjected to risk of fire
It requires careful regular maintenance

2.4: Preservation methods of timber

Brushing
Spraying
Injection under pressure
Hot and cold open tank treatment.
3.0 CHAPTER THREE

3.1 Methodology
A shoe rack is made up of :

 Planned timber board support

 Base boards
 Racks
 Shelves
 Castors

3.2 Procedure of making a shoe rack.

(i) plain timber board support to dimensions and specification

(ii) Saw and plane rack to specifications.

(iii) Make joint on both rack and timber board stands.

(iv) Fix racks on board support and hold them tightly using sash clamp.

(v) Check for squareness and diagonals.

(vi) Drive nails to join racks and stands.

(vii)Fix the castors

(viii)Finish the shoe rack with a glass paper

(ix) Apply paint or vanish to protect a shoe rack from weather.

3.3 Tool used in making shoe rack.

 Hand saw
 Chisel
 Claw hammer
 Wood mallet
 Sash clamp
 Jack plane

3.4 Material used

 Nails 2 inches
 Paints
 Timber
 Glass paper
 Brush 2 inch
4.0 CHAPTER FOUR

4.1 DATA ANALYSIS

This is where the drawing is projected to the three dimensions.

The project has the front elevation, the plan and the end elevation.
4.2 BILL OF QUANTITY
NAME OF QPY PRICE/PC TOTAL MATERIAL.
MATERIALS

Nails 2 inch 1kg 140 140

Paint 1l 500 500

Timber 50ft 20 1000

Glass paper 1ft 30 30

Brush 2 inch 1 pc 50 50

Castors 4 pc 50 200

Total 1920
4.3 FINDINGS
Due to the nature of material used, the shoe rack will serve the entire family therefore reducing
damage to shoe and also minimizing the space used for storage of shoes.
RECOMMENDATION
I recommend the instiution to install modern tools to enhance accuracy and also high quality
materials to increase durability and strength by doing this it will help in saving time for
construction labour cost as it will be done in less time.
CONCLUSION
Having successful constructed a wood Shoe Rack. I have enhanced the development of my skills
and know to about new technologies of making a shoe rack hence making work easier.

It has enabled me to know how to estimate materials and lobour.
