Dear Parents

The poem “I am lucky” helps your child to appreciate his/her own self and accept
him/her as he/she is. You too have an important role here. Please interact with the
child about the need and importance of feeling happy about oneself. Encourage the
child to recite the poem and express his/her thoughts and views. Guide him/her to
complete the worksheets.

Activities for Students:

1. Listen to the sounds around


2. Observe different animals in your surroundings and describe about them to
your parents
3. Recite your favourite poem or sing a song in your home language
4. Listen and recite the poem “I am Lucky” with expressions and gestures

Learning Outcomes: After completing this chapter, students will be able to:

▪ recite the poem with suitable expressions


▪ tell the meaning of the new words
▪ identify the missing words in the given passage
▪ frame short sentences with the help of family members
▪ write 1 or 2 qualities about himself/herself.

Summary of the poem:

Children, this poem tells us about the importance of being thankful for what we have.
Many interesting qualities of animals have been mentioned by the poet to help us
appreciate the animals. But at the same time, the poet wants us to be happy and
thankful about “who we are” and accept ourselves.

New words: Butterfly (we call it “titli” in Hindi), Myna (a bird with a sweet voice),
Kangaroo (an animal which has a little pouch for its baby), Octopus (a creature with
eight arms).

*You could see beautiful pictures of all these animals in the poem “I am lucky”
(pages 20-21)

Dear Parents

The story “I Want” will make your child realize the importance of appreciating and
accepting themselves as they are. Children love animals and therefore, this
message is given through animal character, a monkey. Please interact with them
about the need and importance of feeling happy about oneself. Help them to build
their self-esteem and self-confidence. Encourage them to read the story, express
their thoughts and views and even act out the story. Learning should be a joyful
experience. Kindly help them to complete their worksheets.

Activities for the Students:

1. List the animals you have seen.


2. Read the story “I Want” with proper pronunciation, expressions and gestures.
3. Make masks and act out the story with the help of your parents.
4. Explain the meaning of the new words
5. Frame simple sentences using new words.

Summary of the lesson “I Want”: In this story, a Little Monkey wants to be strong.
A wise woman gives him a magic wand, so that the Little Monkey could fulfil his
wish. He asks for a long neck like giraffe’s, trunk of an elephant and the Zebra
stripes. All his wishes are fulfilled. When the little Monkey sees himself in the water,
he shouts “Monster!”.

New words: Wand (a long, thin stick), Monster (a large, ugly, and frightening
imaginary creature).
