Ever wondered what goes into installing a new fueling system and how the process unfolds?

While all projects are different depending on the configuration of the fuel site, there are some
key milestones that most fuel system installations share.

Using time-lapse photography, the Veeder-Root team of field engineers have captured the
installation of a new retail fueling system. This video documents the installation process from the
lowering of two underground fuel storage tanks to the completed installation of four fuel
dispensers.

A large project like updating a gas station or convenience store’s fueling equipment requires a
well-managed schedule to properly coordinate the sequence of events. This ensures that each
team is on-site only when needed, and they can get to work on their portion of the job with no
delays.

Here are the basic steps involved in updating fueling equipment at a convenience store:

 Installation of the shoring prior to excavation

 Excavate the area and prepare for Underground Storage Tank placement with layer of
stone and anchor stones
 Installation of the Underground Storage Tank and backfill to the top of the tank
 Remove the shoring material from the perimeter of the area
 Dig trenches from the submersible turbine pump sumps to fuel dispenser area
 Install submersible turbine pumps in manway openings
 Run product piping from sumps to dispenser areas
 Run electrical conduits from submersible turbine pump manways back to building
 Run electrical conduits from dispenser pans back to building
 Product piping is pressure tested for leaks
 When pressure test is successful, trenches and tanks are backfilled with crushed stone
 Install wiring into the conduits
 Install concrete pad
 Set dispensers onto islands and connect to piping
 Install probes and sensors into tanks, sumps and dispenser pans
 Terminate wiring into relay boxes, panels and automatic tank gauge console
 Deliver product into tanks
 Energize the dispensers and submersible turbine pumps and purge air out of product lines
 Pave around the perimeter of tank pads
 Site is complete
