Email: laura.fabick@mtsu.edu
Description of course:
This laboratory accompanies EXSC 3830 Exercise Physiology and is used to study the acute
responses and chronic adaptations to exercise. Information will be presented through both
instruction and hands-on practice. Students will also gain experience writing in scientific format.
REQUIRED MATERIALS:
PARTICIPATION POLICY:
• The instructor reserves the right to ask you to leave the lab or not
participate in activities if your physical or mental condition may endanger yourself, peers,
or the facility. Participation points may be affected at the discretion of the instructor.
• LATE ARRIVALS: Brief lectures are given at the beginning of lab. If you
are late to class, you will be responsible for missed material. Arriving to class more than
10 minutes after attendance has been taken will result in an automatic loss of 2
participation points. However, if tardiness results in missing lab activities, further points
will be deducted at the instructor’s discretion.
ASSIGNMENT/GRADING POLICY:
Grading Scale: Your final laboratory grade (percentage) will be averaged into your lecture
grade as 25% of your overall course grade.
The dates for the written and practical exams appear on the included schedule.
• Extra Credit Lab Report: There will be one lab report available for extra
credit. You will be able to earn up to 10 extra credit points that will be added to your final
lab report grade.
• Cell Phone Use: All cell phones should be turned off and be and stored
away prior to entering the classroom. Phone use in class will result in a 25% loss of the
day’s participation points.
LAB REPORT EXPECTATIONS:
You are responsible for five laboratory write-ups, as indicated on the enclosed schedule. The lab
reports in this course are designed to ensure understanding of the lab materials, develop your
professional writing style, and develop your ability to document procedures and results.
Policies regarding Academic Misconduct are strictly enforced (see page 5). Each lab report must
be your original work. It is NOT appropriate to:
• Submit the work of another as your own work
• Copy the lab materials (or any other source) verbatim when answering
questions
• Submit your own work from previous semesters
All lab reports submitted for this course are checked by TurnItIn.com. This service will highlight
every part of your lab report that matches the wording of other sources, including other lab
reports submitted. If plagiarism of any kind is identified in your lab report, the policies outlined
on page 5 will be followed.
All lab reports must be SUBMITTED TO DROPBOX by 11:59 pm on the date they are due.
Technological difficulties will not be an accepted excuse for late work. Any late submissions
will receive a grade of zero.
The following list identifies the expected formatting discussion questions for each report:
• All reports must be typed in Microsoft Word.
• Double spaced
• 1-inch margins
• Times New Roman, 12 pt font
• Questions in the lab report outlines are numbered for clarity
• Questions are to be answered thoroughly enough to show you understand
the material (no 1 word/sentence answers)
