Attendance Policy
Attendance at all class meetings is a professional disposition for each student. Therefore, attendance is a
requirement for this course. The candidate may be excused from 2 class meetings without a legitimate excuse
(unexcused). The third and every one thereafter, unexcused absence will deduct 5 points from the student’s final
grade (total points). There are circumstances that cannot be helped. If you are absent or cannot participate you
must provide appropriate documentation (University recognized written excuse) to receive credit. Examples of
legitimate excuses for being absent include predetermined athletic competitions, college events, etc... The
instructor determines final decisions on excuses.

Tardiness Policy
Beyond 3 tardies, is considered extreme tardiness and points will also be deducted from final grade (5 points
from the student’s final grade (total points). If a student shows up 10 minutes after class has officially started
(when lecture begins), that will be an absence. Extreme tardiness can result in a reduction in assignments being
turned in during that class period.

Missed Work
Opportunity to make up missed exams will be provided, yet it must be approved by the professor PRIOR to the
missed exam. Failure to do so will result in a zero for that test. Assignments will not be accepted late unless
2
prior approval is given/or a written excuse is given. If you know you will be absent you must turn assignments
in early. Daily attendance will be taken. For information on requesting an incomplete in the course, see the
college catalog, pages 25-31.

E-Mail and Moodle Communication

UMO e-mail is the only acceptable form of e-mail communication for students and instructors. Students may
expect messages from the instructor on this account. Failure to check your UMO e-mail account and Moodle
shell is not an acceptable excuse for missing messages.

Electronic Interruptions
Disruptive activities in the classroom will not be tolerated and may result in dismissal from the class. This
includes cell phone use (including text messaging), pagers and other electronic devices. These must be turned
off during class. You will get 1 warning in class regarding cell phone use. Violation of this rule is grounds for
dismissal from class and you will be granted an unexcused absence (SEE ABOVE CONSEQUENCES FOR
EXCESSIVE ABSENCES). There will also be point deductions for your cell phone being out in your learning
space.

ADDITIONAL COURSE RULES

1. Exams, quizzes, labs and assignments are taken and due at the assigned due date and time. I will not accept
late assignments or students who do not show or show late for examinations/quizzes. You are considered
absent from an exam/quiz once the first student turns in his/her exam. Exams/quizzes and assignments cannot
be made up. Exceptions may apply under very special circumstances (e.g., death/illness in family, participation
in University sponsored function) but will be dealt with on a one-on-one basis. You must request before class
to miss an examination/lab. Otherwise, your absence will more than likely be unexcused. If an examination or
assignment is to be made up, it must be made up before the start of the next class period.
2. The instructor will not supply pencils, calculators or paper for class lectures or examination.
3. Bring your own pencil and calculator (not a cell phone) to each class period and to an examination.

the assignment.
9. The final examination will be given during the final examination date and time unless otherwise stated.
10. Grades, test scores, term grades etc will be posted on ‘Moodle’ and will not be given over the phone or
