FIELD STUDY 2
(LEARNING EPISODE 1: THE TEACHER WE REMEMBER)

ANALYZE
1. From the PPSTs, the Southeast Asia Teachers Competency Standards and the
TEDx videos that you viewed, what competencies does a great teacher possess?

 Based on the video I had watched; the following are the competencies that a
great teacher should possess:
- A great Teacher eat apples.
- A great Teacher is chill.
- A great Teacher thinks like a kid but acts like an adult.
- A great teacher isn't a teacher.
- A great teacher understands that students have a life outside of school.
- A great teacher sings.

2. Are these competencies limited only to professional competencies?

 No, I think if we are always going to consider professional competencies in

teaching our students, we are just like teaching them like a robot. We do things
according to plan, according to the right methods or approaches and the real
essence of teaching will be gone. What I do believe more is that, teachers should
teach his/her students with a heart. An attitude or personality that is willing to
listen to his/her students in every situation they are in and who knows how to
understand them when anyone else can't.

3. A teacher to be great, is it enough to possess the professional competencies to

plan a lesson, execute a lesson plan, manage a class, assess learning, compute
and report grades? Explain your answer.

 No. If the teacher will always think about professionalism, it will be more likely
that he/she is just teaching like a robot. The teacher should also come out on
/her own self and be second parents to his students. Teachers should also act
like their second parents willing to listen, understand and be one of them so that
as a teacher, he/she knows exactly what his/her students are likely to be.

4. For a teacher to be great, which is more important – personal qualities or

professional competencies?

 From the video itself, personal qualities are better than professional
competencies however, on my personal point, I will also choose personal
qualities over professional competencies because as a student view, I want a
teacher who is more understanding, more affectionate, the one who does not
only good in teaching a subject but a teacher who shows us and helps us to
understand the lesson and how we can apply it to our own real-life experiences.
A teacher that shows empathy towards his/her students.

5. Who are the teachers that we remember most?

 The teacher that we can't forget and will always be remembered are those
teachers who really see our worth. Not because we are one of the best students
but because they believe in us, they believe in our strength, they believe that we
can still do things and surpass things in the future. They are the teachers who
are there when we needed a person who will listen to us and understand us
when everyone else doesn't.

REFLECT
Which personal traits I possess? Not possess? Where do I need improvement in?

 The personal trait I possess is Empathy towards my students. And the personal
traits that I do not possess are being immature and unmotivated. I need
improvement in the things that are too risky and demand too much pressure.

Which professional competencies I am strongly capable of demonstrating?

 Activities that really interest me such as organizing different school programs and
lectures and other school activities.

In which competencies do I need to develop more?

 Making public speaking and doing some volunteering.

Who are the teachers we remember the most?

 -They are the one who inspires us, motivates us to be great and see our worth
even in our own we failed to see it.

WRITE ACTION RESEARCH PROMPTS

1. OBSERVE In assisting my Resource Teacher, I observed that personal traits such as
feeling unmotivated professional competencies like unorganized lessons were least /
not displayed, and as a result, students were / class was not that good and conducive
classroom.

2. REFLECT The lack of these personal traits and professional competencies

(mentioned in #1) may be caused by stress and lack of motivation.

3. PLAN I would like to address this problem (mentioned in #2) by conducting action
research on motivation acts for teachers.

4. ACT
a. The main objective of my action research is to know what makes a teacher to be
motivated.
b. My specific research questions are: What are the things that will help teachers to be
motivated? What are the things that lessen teachers’ motivation progress?

c. To answer my specific research questions, I will ask some other teachers regarding
my action research or do some survey questionnaires to help me gather data.

CHECK FOR MASTERY

1. Which behavior does a great teacher who can empathize with his/her students
display?
Answer: A. Feels what students feel.

2. According to students, a great teacher is chill. What does this mean? Teacher
is:

Answer: A. I, II, III

3. Which professional competency refers to the content knowledge and

pedagogy?

Answer: D. I, II, and III

4. To address the diversity of learners, which professional competency must

teacher display?

Answer: B. Do differentiated teaching

5. In the Southeast Asian Teachers Competency Framework, who is at the center

with whom the professional teacher relates?

Answer: C. The joyful learner

WORK ON MY ARTIFACTS
I have learned and realized that to be a great teacher does not mean you

are a very competent teacher. A kind of teacher that all knowledge of every subject, a

teacher who knows exactly what kind of teacher pedagogy or teacher methodology to

use in every lesson that he or she is going to teach in short, a teacher with high

professional competencies but rather our students need a teacher who is kind,

generous, willing to listen, approachable and a teacher who teaches with a heart for his

or her students. A teacher can be a friend at the same time by her/his students in times

of need. A teacher that has good personal qualities.

In today's generation, our students are becoming more independent and

sometimes they act and think as if they don't need any help coming from adults but we
should always keep in mind that they are still learning and guiding them is much more

important. Guide them and listen to them as they achieve their dreams.

REFLECT
1. What significant ideas or concepts have you learned about action research?

 I learned that doing some action research is a very big help especially to student
like me. It will not only help find solution for any problem but it will improve my
future craft more.

2. Have you realized that there is a need to be an action researcher as a future

teacher? Yes ✓ No ___. If yes, complete the sentence below.

 I realized that doing action research as early as possible is important because it

will help me to prepare for my future.
WRITE ACTION RESEARCH PROMPTS
OBSERVE
From what teaching principles of theories can this problem be anchored?

 I have observed and noticed that action research begins with a problem or a
problematic situation.

Write an example of a problematic situation that you have observed and noticed. I
observed that some students in high school especially grade 7 students are not that
good in reading in English subject.

REFLECT
What have I realized?

 I realized that some students are not that good in reading comprehension.
Students who are already in high school should at least already understand what
they are reading but it is disappointing to know that even simple reading phrases
are very hard for them.

What do I hope to achieve?

 I hope that all students before going to high school should already know how to
read in English.

PLAN
What strategies, activities, innovations can I employ to improve the situation or
solve the problem?

 As future research I can plan for an appropriate intervention like there

should be a reading practice and comprehension program for every grade level
to check whether the student knows how to read and at the same time
comprehend. Or perhaps teachers could have a pair or study buddy so that each
and every one can learn from each other. Fast readers/learners could teach their
slow readers classmates. These could also be done even during their vacant
hours.
ACT
If I conduct or implement my plan, what can be its title?
 If will implement my doable in the future, my title would "Improving Reading
Comprehension of the Students in English Language through Buddy System"

4."Every teacher, should be an action researcher." This statement is

Answer: C. the call for teachers is the current times.

5. following statement is TRUE?

Answer: B. Noticing helps a teacher spot problematic situation.

WORK ON MY ARTIFACTS
Reading comprehension has been highlighted as a problem among middle

primary school students. Many students while being proficient in text decoders have

difficulty comprehending text. When there is little to no emphasis on comprehension, on

exploring the meaning behind the words, students are not actually reading but merely

making the appropriate sounds. In this regard, this action research has made it possible

to improve the reading comprehension of the students through a buddy system.

In this era, students tend to learn more through collaboration, and one great

point of securing that they learn to assign them to study with their study buddy. Thus,

the buddy system is a great avenue to learn especially in terms of reading

comprehension. Through this kind of system, other students will check his/her buddy for

his/her reading performance and series of questions will be asked to assess if the other

student understand what he/she learned. This will both benefit the students.

REFLECT Reflection

Teachers thinks that students should

overcome their anxiety towards Math.
Therefore, thinks and analyzed that
students develop more through

learners and school collaborative support.
Data could be from his/her learners or he
could also ask other grade levels for
additional data.
Teacher will be able to show and know
more about his/her students struggling in
Math. The data itself will tell the teacher
what possibly is the problem and think
about possible solution right away.

What have you understood about the concept of Action Research and how will
these be utilized in your practice?
I understand that action research could be a method of systematic inquiry that teachers
use as researchers of their own practice. As a future educator, I can utilize action
research by reflecting on my practice so as to enhance it, to become more autonomous
in professional judgment, to form a more energetic and dynamic environment for
teaching and learning, to articulate and build my craft knowledge, and to acknowledge
and appreciate my very own expertise.

REFLECT

As a future teacher, is conducting an Action Research worth doing?

 Yes, Action Research is worth doing.

Why?

 Because it will not only enhance our ideas and improve our pedagogy but it will
help us to take actions of what we may add or improve in our teaching as we
begin to discover things that are hard for our learners. Likewise, it will empower
our decision making as we make and take actions. It will also help improve
school development and improve our educational practices.

How can AR be useful for every classroom teacher?

 Action Research is useful in classroom in the way of, it will generate to improve
teaching pedagogy, as the plans are created, and implemented. In addition, it will
develop new knowledge directly related to classroom. As teachers make
developments, learners become active and their learning enhances.

OBSERVE
Remembering my classroom observations in FS 1, I noticed that there are many
questions that I raised in my mind. These include:
a. What are the things do I need to improve?
b. Which professional competencies I am strongly capable in?
c. Which professional competencies I need to improve or develop more?

REFLECT
Thinking deeply about those problems, perhaps something must have been done
to solve the problem or answer the question, like:
a. Self-Examination about the things I need to improve.
b. Asking others opinion about competencies that I am strongly capable.
c. Self-discovery and asking constructive criticism about my professional competencies
that I need to develop.

PLAN
Now, that I am in FS 2, I plan to make a plan for my solution to problem (choose
from a, b, c) because
c. I want to develop my professional competencies that I am not strongly capable and
things that need to develop.

ACT
My action will come later, given enough time in FS 2 or during my Teaching Internship.

✓ Rigorous

✓ Futuristic

✓ Situational

4. On which of the following would you choose to conduct an Action Research.

Why?
X Changes in the classroom practices. Why?
X Effects of curriculum restructuring. Why?

✓ Understanding of self as a teacher. Why?

 Because I believe that I am still new and novice on teaching world and I believe
that as a teacher it is important to know yourself first before doing and conducting
research because sometimes, the problem arises from teachers. I believe that
teachers must need to examine and discover more about themselves first and
foremost so that he/she knows what exactly his/her strengths and weaknesses.
X Teaching a new process to the students. Why?

5. Which of the following relates closely to what action research is?

✓ Used to address practical problems in the classroom

✓ Refers only to everyday life of the learners

✓ Allows teachers to study their own classroom

WORK ON MY ARTIFACTS
I. Title of Action Research:
Improving Students’ English Spelling Ability Through Concentration Game and
Tell a Story Game

II. Author/s: Dwi Astuti Wahyu Nurhayat

III. Abstract

The low spelling ability of kindergarten students in Al-Irsyad Madiun is caused by (1) the
uninteresting activities in learning English; (2) the students' difficulties in spelling English words;
(3) the students' low motivation in learning are the main problems in this research. The nature
of spelling, games in language, difficulty in teaching English as well as the development and
motivation for the young learners are what includes in a theoretical framework. Several
procedures are also followed such as identifying the problem, planning, implementing, and
observing the action, and reflecting on the result of the research. The teacher is the one who
acts as the researcher. In data collection, the researcher uses the observational technique
through a test. Field notes, teacher's diaries recordings of some student work, and research
questions are used in analyzing the data. There is also an improvement based on the pre-test
and post-test conducted. Using media with interesting tasks and activities through a game has
an increased positive effect on students’ motivation in learning English spelling ability.

IV. Identify the Problem in the Study

- low spelling ability of kindergarten students that is caused by uninteresting activities in learning
English
- the student’s low motivation in learning, and
- English is still considered informal and it is not included in the curriculum and teachers are not
that competent enough in teaching the English subject.

V. Identify the Action Taken in the Study

Researchers follow different procedures in taking action in the study this includes the following:
1. Identifying initial idea
2. Reconnaissance
3. Constructing the general planning.
4. Action
5. Monitoring
6. Reconnaissance

The Researcher also administered pre-test, regular tests after some teaching-learning processes,
and post-test. In finding the qualitative data, the researcher did direct observation in the
classroom, interviewed the teachers, gave interviews to the students regarding their activities
studying their English, and held meetings with colleagues to find out the students’ improvement.
The researcher used a tape recorder, photograph, interview, portfolios, and fieldnotes.
FIELD STUDY 2
(LEARNING EPISODE 5: PREPARING THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT: AN
OVERVIEW)

PARTICIPATE AND ASSIST

What will you do to assist your mentor in setting up a conducive learning
environment in the following conditions:
1. Bulletin Board Display: Bulletin board should interactive, have clear, concise
directions that are easy for the students to read and understand. Because interactive
bulletin boards are bulletin boards that allow students to participate in an activity that
reinforces the class’s objectives. Bulletin boards can also be electronic, which can
easily be set up for any subject area.
2. Small Group Discussion: Should have clearly defined the rules and routines for
transitions between activities and classes. And gives all members of the group a chance
to speak their opinions, to agree or disagree with others, and to have their thoughts
heard. And will group them by equally fair and balanced according to their skills and
knowledge.
3. Checking class attendance in a virtual classroom (i.e. google meet or zoom): in
the part of the attendance the teachers called the name of the students and ask some
question that serve as participation in class. Or checking class attendance thru the form.
When students click the link, all they have to do is find their name and click the circle
next to it.
NOTICE

Learning Environment 1:
 What have you noticed of the display in the class bulletin board? What message
or theme does it convey?
 Most of the theme displayed is all about the reminders to the teachers and students. And
celebrations of the month. Some of the bulletin boards I see have attractive pictures and
colors.

 What makes it attractive to the learners?

 There is a board design that reflects the likes/interests of the audience. Because some of
the bulletin board is all about the activities in the school and achievements of the
students.

 Does it help in the learning process? YES How?

 Because by posting the information details about the school the learners get information
and have awareness of the activity happens in the school. And through the bulletin board,
students are encouraged to perform well in their studies.
Learning Environment 2:
 If the teacher is using a distance delivery of learning through the modules, where
is most likely the learning space of the students?
 The learning space of the students when they have distance learning through modules is
they learn at their house or it also called a home-study. Since the advent of online and
modular learning, students’ primary learning environment has been their homes, where
they were taught by their parents. Teachers do, however, occasionally visit pupils at
home to inspect and evaluate their progress

 Can you describe?

 The teacher prints module that have lesson, activities and assignments and it have
answer key at the back of the modules that serve as guide to the learners. The learners’
study at their own chair and table and have comfortable place to focus on their studies.

 How can you as a teacher help to make such environment conducive for learning?
 If I ever become a teacher, I will make every effort to create a learning environment in
my classroom. I will keep my classroom clean, well-lit, and well-ventilated. I’ll also ensure
that my classroom furniture is correctly organized in my thoughts and heart, and I’ll strive
to be a loving teacher. Additionally, I will ensure that facilities and equipment are
presentable because this aids students’ learning processes. Every classroom should be
arranged in such a way that it motivates pupils to learn while simultaneously providing a

Environment 1 which is a face-to-face class because it is easy to approach them
physically. Being with the students it can be easy to interact with them and know if the
learners have developed to their knowledge and skills because they meet in physically,
they can also explain to the learners the instructions and guide them if they don’t
understand some lessons.

REFLECT
Based on my noticing and analysis, I realized that
a. I realize that students learn in many different ways in very different contexts. Since
learners must do the learning, the aim is to create a total environment for learning that
optimizes the ability of students to learn. There is an infinite number of possible learning
environments, which is what makes teaching so interesting.
b. Online learning environment the success of an online course may be aided by a
conducive learning environment. It's not just about fostering an engaging and motivating
classroom environment. An ideal classroom environment promotes the instructor-
student relationship while also providing a sense of support and communication.
c. While Face-to-face learning, on the other hand, is an instructional style in which
course content and learning material are delivered to a group of students in person.
This allows a learner and an instructor to engage in real time. Learners also benefit from
increased interaction with their classmates.

OBSERVE
What probable problem may result from the two situations of the learning
environment?

 The likely difficulty, in my opinion, is that if children get infected with the Covid19
virus and they will be at risk if they are in a school setting or in a face-to-face
lesson. While they are prone to becoming bored and finding their lessons tough
when they are learning at home.

REFLECT
What solutions can I think of solve the problem?

 I believe that one way to fix the problem is to become more prayerful in order to
overcome all of the obstacles we are currently encountering and to focus on the
things we will do, particularly when we will learn from them. We should also be
more patient with our students and always tell them that if they want to learn,
they must do their best.

PLAN
How should I do it?

 Maybe I will set the time and date to have communication to the students and
answer the question of the students and also ask the what the lesson students
can’t understand.

WORK ON MY ARTIFACTS

“My Conducive Learning Environment”

By: Brielle Elise Cruz

A conducive environment is described as one that provides beneficial conditions or

surroundings. One would create an environment conducive to learning from the inside out.
Students should be motivated both inside and outside. That is, the student should have an
excellent foundation upon which to build their education. The student, particularly the online
learner, must develop the ability to manage the environment in which they complete
classwork, homework, and study/reading time. Additionally, the student must develop the
ability to absorb or disregard his or her immediate environment.
Students generally require a well-lit, preferably natural lighting, and ventilated environment
that is air conditioned or heated and maintains a comfortable temperature. To complete the
required coursework, a student will require the standard supplies. While these resources
and/or equipment are beneficial, the place or setting in which one studies, completes class
work, and completes homework is equally important. Students have a variety of personal and
academic requirements. The environment that a student chooses for educational reasons
varies from person to person. Each student has a unique space that is beneficial to his or her
education.

The student's surroundings should be clean and comfortable, devoid of offensive odors and/or
overpowering scents or loud noises, including friends and relatives. The student's environment
resembles a forested area. Base on my idea, a suitable learning environment can exist virtually
everywhere inside or outside of the primarily classroom environment. This environment should
be soothing and comfortable, but not so much so that it tempts one to sleep or nap; if a
student is in a classroom setting, he or she will be unable to snooze.

Instructors or professor are supposed to create an environment that is conducive to learning

and to their ability to teach. A learning environment that possesses the transforming potential
of an effective instructor is the type of environment that one craves and, more importantly,
requires. This type of instructor is passionate about the subject and enjoys their work, which
he or she is able to express to the pupils with ease.

PARTICIPATE AND ASSIST

Given the concepts and the infographic, how can you participate and assist in
a face-to-face learning environment?

 Providing a safe environment within a classroom setting where students trust

that they can explore their thoughts on a subject with their peers is an
effective way for students to consider different perspectives. And by giving
them the time, support and tools they need to focus, I can help them become
better learners and develop the confidence and perseverance they need to
succeed in school and in life.

NOTICE
Having been exposed to the traditional classrooms in your basic education, it
seems that everything is familiar. However, as teaching-learning theories evolve
over time there are changes that are taking place.
What changes have you noticed in the face-to-face classroom spaces.

ANALYZE

1. What do you think brought the changes in the face-to-face learning

environment now?

 For me the changes in face-to-face learning environment now are the

communication between the teacher and leaners and the strategies on how to
teach them in distance learning and how to know that students will still learn
in distance learning.
2. From the changes that you identified, choose one that you can do. How will
you do it?

 I will choose the changes above the strategies on how to teach in distance
learning and know that students still learn in distance learning. I know it is
hard and very challenging to distance learning without enough time and
physical with students but I will do my best to make sure that my students will
learn and no one will have left behind I will also know the situation of the
students if how will study in their house and through I will know and think the
best strategies that I will do.

REFLECT
Do you think making the learning environment conductive for a face-to-face
classroom will enable the learners to achieve better learning outcomes? Explain
your answer.

 Yes, making learning environment conducive for a face-to-face classroom to

achieve better learning outcomes, because it gives students more learnings
and enhance them to develop our skills and knowledge it helps students to
motivate and learned a lot because it has a conducive learning environment.

WRITE ACTION RESEARCH PROMPTS

OBSERVE
What common problem have I noticed in a face-to-face learning environment?

 The most common problem I’ve observed in a face-to-face learning setting

are big class sizes with varied learners, ability gaps between students, and a
lack of funding for classroom resources and supplies. These were
particularly clear in my observations of schools. If I were to boil this issue
down to a single question, it would be, “How did schools and teachers deal
with high class sizes with varied learners.
Can I translate this problem into a question?

 Can do classroom manage without help of teacher?

REFLECT
How would I solve the problem?

 As a future teacher, I should first understand the problem and how it occurs.
I should also consider the impact of these problems on the teaching and
learning process. Following that, I may formulate a strategy or consider
various solutions to the situation. These would assist me in honing my
teaching abilities and acquiring additional experiences that I could apply to
the improvement of myself and my capacity as a teacher to convey
knowledge to students.

Will it improve my teaching? How?

 Yes, it will be improving my teaching If I have a good proper classroom

management and students follow to me.
PLAN
What will I do to solve the problem? Describe briefly how you will do it.
 To resolve the issues outlined above, I should follow my plan: To manage
large class numbers with various learners, I should choose activities that do
not create confusion and disorganization in the classroom. I would employ a
variety of teaching strategies and approaches to accommodate learns’
varying skills, and I would solicit assistance from organizations and
individuals eager to donate and assist learners with their challenges
obtaining educational supplies. With them, I believe I could accomplish the
task and resolve the issue with the assistance of school stakeholders, PTA
members, and other teachers.

 As a teacher, according to my observations, presenting the topics or lessons to

the class in a virtual class is easy to implement. Since it is virtual, students can
work at their own pace and may even feel more at ease tackling projects
independently or with the rest of the class. They can go back and review the
topics they don’t grasp and devote extra time to learn about them. They can
watch video presentations or listen to recorded sessions as many times as they
like until they comprehend the material completely.

2. How did the students show their active participation in the lesson?

 The students show their active participation in the lesson by using the chat box
on the meeting app or site to share their opinions and responses to questions
posed by the teacher. After that, the teacher reads their comments and
complements or clarifies them. By turning on/off the cameras and their
microphones when teacher asks them to do it also shows participation in the

order to create an effective Classroom Management Plan.

2. Why is there a need to utilize the information to create your classroom

management plan?
 To address the expectations for the students and hold them accountable for their
actions, we must use the information to build our classroom management plan,
harmonize it, analyze it, plan for it, and successfully implement. It needs to utilize
the information to create the classroom management to have a guide and
maintain the behavior of the learners it is also help classroom management to do
task easy and the learners adopt the routines and procedures given in the
classroom that can be used to develop themselves.

3. What were the significant things that you noticed when you were
implementing your plan?
 In order for my classroom management plan to be effective, I’ve learned that I
need to keep track of the key components that need to be addressed. I also
understand the concept and strategies that this plan aids instructors in
establishing and setting expectations for students, resulting in improved student
achievement, skills, and competencies, as well as social and emotional growth.

4. Were there items in your classroom/remote learning management plan

which were not tailored to the needs of your students? How will you
improve on these?
